Finished Deep Sixed, neat little game which allllmost scratches the “spaceship maintenance sim” itch I’ve had for ages. Still more goofy minigame than anything resembling a proper fake engineering problem tho I’d say? Will try Tin Can soonish

The AI hype cycle is even better than the blockchain or metaverse hype cycles because any functionality can just be rebranded as AI. Background erase in a photo editor? AI. Procgen tools for environ art based on copious pre-made assets? AI. Reactive NPC dialogue? That's an AI. BETTER INVEST NOW

Have seen several people, including a number of authors I really respect, declare they're not going to use spellcheck anymore and I'm sorry but what are we even doing here? Esp. with regard to assistive tech like screen readers, begging people to use their brains

no joke, this is a realer issue than you even know if you touched grass in the late 2010s. Generative AI is just where NFT dudes went next, but AGI is a religious project to bring about the Singularity so our souls will be emulated forever in Computer Heaven.
I think we need a full accounting of which of the tech executives think Roko’s Basilisk is real I really think we deserve full transparency on which of them genuinely think they’re building a computer god who will punish them if it’s not built.

if there was any confusion about this point, turns out the student in question is kristi fulnecky's daughter. absolutely no doubt this was 100% intentional. hoped we'd seen the last of her when she was run out of city council but no she's got a radio show and a podcast and an axe to grind now :/
every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades
