In the beginning, sometimes I left messages in the street.
Couldn’t grow damned potatoes out of the ground
Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?
Mine: religious nuttery & primogeniture

If, like Gimenez, you can’t see the administration’s purpose through the lens of white supremacy then you probably can fool yourself into thinking it’s about deporting “criminals not grandmas.”

But of course it is white supremacy and so therefore the mere existence of nonwhite people is a crime.
Early last year I approached Rep Gimenez with an offer to work together to protect immigrants in his district & mine. He rudely told me he had his own strategy & walked off.

Apparently his strategy was to do nothing for over a year to actually stop this.

Miami deserves better.
Gimenez: "We've been warning the administration about the enforcement that's been going on. We thought there should've been a course correction a long time ago, and now I guess it's gonna be forced on us by the Democrats. We should've been focusing on criminals and gang members, not grandmothers."

I gotta say, who the fuck cares what the players think about the halftime show choice?
From @theathletic.com: Reactions from NFL players about Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl were largely split. The majority who didn’t like the selection cited a lack of familiarity with his music or said they just preferred a different performer.
How do NFL players feel about Bad Bunny playing the Super Bowl halftime show?

Chotiner is really good, obviously, and it’s sometimes best to get people to just lay things bare and let the audience decide. But in this case I feel like the sarcasm (undetected by the interview subject, it appears), kind of leaves this piece lacking.
Absolutely brutal interview

It’s fine to keep saying “Melania” bombed. There’s no reason to split hairs on a colossal flop

So I found out this is one of the ICE agents involved in this incident.

Still kind of rankled by the fact that Sinners was so widely praised and it’s mostly just a listless vampire movie with prestige acting
January 29, 2026 at 2:36 PM
So, Sinners…I just can’t do vampire shit man

*30 for 30 voice*

What if I told you that the worst Bad Group was Matt Yglesias’s Twitter feed/Substack?
Yglesias is the one being dumb about this. Trump was at -10 on deportations by May 2025 — a full month before Matt stood in front of a centrist Super PAC audience and said “bad groups” wanted Dems to talk about deportees. He ignored data until recent events made it impossible to

Senate Dems have the filibuster which gives them more ammo but House votes are essentially toss ups now with the number so everything she talks about negotiating for could’ve been things she negotiated for by withholding her vote
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (one of 7 Democrats who just voted to fund DHS) defends her stance.

Argues funding for ICE "is not the question." Instead, Senate Democrats have leverage for various demands.

"I think they could negotiate to replace Noem with someone that doesn't skirt the filibuster."

hey tony dokoupil I was also with your mom last night but there wasn't much "interviewing" going on if you know what I mean

I’d find the consistency, almost ritualistic humiliation of Tony Dokoupil hard to watch if he wasn’t so willingly taking it

This isn’t a dunk but I’m starting to think the chatter about OBAA being mid is a coordinated Oscar campaign by Sinners or Marty Supreme
People mostly say "Americans live in different realities" to talk about politics but it is blaring in my head reading the positive reviews of One Battle After Another

The more I think about it, the biggest affront to college conference logic is UMass being in the MAC now. That conference is reserved for directional Michigans and 9 different cities in Ohio. Nothing that touches the ocean can ever truly be part of MACtion

I despised this man and his team when he was in the NFL (still do in college I guess but at least it’s funny now), but this is actually shocking
A stunner from @dvnjr.bsky.social and me: Bill Belichick is not a first ballot Hall of Famer. He didn't get elected this year. The 8-time champion failed to 40 out of the 50 votes required for induction.

Noem is beyond cooked. At this point we’re turning the oven up to 450 for a quick broil to get that nice crispness at the end
