Sporadic filmmaker. ROY'S WORLD: BARRY GIFFORD'S CHICAGO is streaming! (Willem Dafoe, Matt Dillon, Lili Taylor.) New film: MY LAST MARTINI. Some stuff I scribe: #Chicago, #movies, #cocktails, #music, #books. And yup: I'm #gay. https://linktr.ee/randomcha

David Lynch: "Barry Gifford is a killer f**kin' writer...ROY'S WORLD captures his childhood and that time in Chicago, and many other places. I really enjoyed watching it and then contemplating what goes on inside a person with this history." My film is streaming! letterboxd.com/film/roys-wo...
White Claw is indefensible, I mean grow a pair and just order a Zima.
White Claws are cocktails for people who don't understand beer and are afraid of being emasculated for ordering a delicious cocktail and I am sub-skeeting the guy next to me at the bar.

Tough one! I'll go with SILENCE by John Cage and TWO SERIOUS LADIES by Jane Bowles.
alright let’s get something more pleasant going. what two books would you leave out on your coffee table so a reporter can mention you have them. doesn’t matter if you’ve read them. for me it’s Pale Fire (which I did read) and Ulysses (got like 15% of the way in)

It's almost like for all these years, rich and powerful people have been lying to us about what happens when they have to pay their fair share of taxes.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

Abolish ICE.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Sigh. Reading Orwell, THE ROAD TO WIGAN PIER, and it's startling to see what hasn't changed since the 1930s.

Getting so close to my year end goal of 100 subscribers. If you haven’t already, do this poor Monacan filmmaker a solid, open your YouTube app (we all have the YouTube app downloaded, don’t play), and hit that subscribe button! It will help tremendously down the road when I’m trying to find funding.

Illinois needs a progressive income tax. It should be on the ballot every year until it passes.

Almost every other funding idea they come up with is just bullshit nibbling around the edges in ways that still predominantly tax working people instead of those with real wealth.
A corporate head tax will be paid out of a personnel/staffing budget.

Which means less money for workers in Chicago compared to other places.

Corporations don’t pay the head tax.

You do.

A favorite of Guillermo del Toro, Él is a thrilling/upsetting marital drama from Mexico's Golden Age that starts at emotional abuse and spirals into madness. My Criterion column this month on the new 4K restoration of this Luis Buñuel classic: www.avclub.com/cult-of-crit...
Cult Of Criterion: Él
Luis Buñuel injected his masterful Mexican melodrama Él with just enough uncanniness to poison its lead's mind.

Tonight in 1990 — Laura Palmer’s killer was revealed on TWIN PEAKS.

ABC insisted, and David Lynch + Mark Frost delivered a chilling episode.

But Lynch hated closure, and he got his payback with a finale cliffhanger it took 25 years to resolve. And even then, he still left us wondering. #TwinPeaks
