I've seen some vocally anti-AI people recently make an anti-AI post and be surprised there are still pro-AI people following them, and I can explain this;

most pro-AI people think they are somehow the exception. the way THEY are using it, SURELY you would take no issue!

well, we do. so fuck off.

One thing I think about a lot from working on Blight's Hollow is my co-creator, Oli, a writer/TTRPG dev, telling me "This arrangement is great because I wouldn't be able to afford you otherwise." I don't know why more indie projects don't make up for small budgets by enticing top talent w/ ownership
artists and writers should be co creators on more projects

Fantastic ending to Baroness Kidron's speech in the House of Lords yesterday, which led to the government's defeat on AI & copyright.

Speaking the UK's creators: "Their property, their labour, is worthy of your protection - because apart from anything else, it is not ours to give away."

Writers: before you sign a contract with a publisher, make sure AI isn't replacing your illustrator, your translator, your editor, your jacket designer. Readers: if you're thinking of buying a book, do the same. Refuse. Resist. If AI garbage doesn't sell, people will stop making it.

People increasingly recognize it's not okay to use generative AI trained on artists' or writers' work to get out of paying artists or writers, I'd like to humbly submit it's not okay for artists, writers, etc to use generative AI trained on programmers' work to get out of paying programmers either 🥲

You MUST watch this exchange from today’s Tx House debate on anti-library HB3225.

“This is about your desire to make sure that children have access to sexually explicit materials,” says the bill’s author.

“Rep Alders, do you know what I have done for a living?” Says @voteannjohnson.bsky.social

NEW: The music distribution platform SoundCloud updated its terms of service to allow it to use artists' uploaded music to train AI.

The change quietly went into effect last year. It looks like a lot of SoundCloud users were caught off guard.

TLDR, Soundcloud has put it in their terms of service that must agree to letting them use your music to train AI.
If you're on the site, get off now and move your stuff elsewhere.

I always try to hammer home art is a trade skill, it needs to be seen as a hands-on labor occupation. It's not an indulgence, it's real work, real sweat, real time investment.

genAI arguments only make as much headway as they do because people don't see art that way

One of the things I wish more DMs would do: have animals interact with the magic of the world.

What, like humans are the only ones who've worked out spells?

Your telling me a New Caledonian Crow can't figure out how to cast Goodberry?
The emus have formed a complete circle, which is beginning to manifest a giant glowing swirl of energy.
ASSASSIN: Maybe we shouldn’t let them summon their giant emu god?

It feels trite to quote fiction but all I can think of is the Adama quote: "There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."
“Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Attorney General, shall determine how military and national security assets, training, non-lethal capabilities, and personnel can most effectively be utilized to prevent crime”
Uh...

This is legitimately frightening

Why did we become convinced that the answer was always “disruption”, when experience tells us that the achievement of civilisation is the opposite? The move from chaos to organisation. The move from vulnerability to stability.

Move carefully and fix things.

A Titanfall extraction shooter would have whipped ass, probably.

But that's because Titanfall ANYTHING would whip ass and I think we should NOT cancel the game or fire the team building Titanfall

Thanks for coming to my lecture: we should all play movement-centric shooters and have a lot of fun
