Yeah I did an article for Jez on the far right and child marriage a while back, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing right wingers explicitly arguing that we should allow it for that exact reason
Also most of the "loss" is from a lack of teen pregnancies, it's a total dog whistle for wanting to prey on minors

I'm honestly glad that we did, even though as kids we barely understood the cultural references or contemporary news, we learned them through these sorts of things and broadened the cultural understanding that others would reference in the future, I wonder if kids today have anything similar
why did so many millennials read so many newspaper comics? easily 60 percent of my reading diet in elementary/middle school was collected editions of calvin and hobbes, farside, dilbert, peanuts, doonesbury (!), foxtrot (?!?) and i know im not alone. historically unique phenomenon

I like that they’ve given up on even having immigration enforcement as a pretext for any of this. It’s just purely armed masked goons wandering around in the middle of intersections harassing U.S. citizens as a display of force now.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

This exactly. U.S. and European culture uniformly showing the villainy of the Nazis, and the heroism of the leaders and the millions of volunteers on the Allied side—Evelyn Waugh, Kurt Vonnegut, James Stewart, Audrey Hepburn!—every film, every TV show, every thriller in the bookshop. And now this?
It's weird thinking about all the history classes where we were sold ideas about decency, inclusiveness, democracy etc. Even if they were aspirational simplifications of nuanced history, I can't believe how many people were like, 'No. The Nazis were cool, slavery is good, ethnic cleansing is good.'
