This is my absolute favorite WWII story
This is your reminder that Hungarian-Jewish scientist George de Hevesy dissolved two Nobel Prizes in aqua regia to keep them out of the hands of the Nazis.

He then left the dissolved solution on his shelf and fled to Sweden.

(After the war he un-dissolved the gold and the prizes were re-cast.)

I cannot emphasize enough the absolutely seismic nature of the shift between “children are what happens to you, especially if you get married” and “you can choose whether, when, and with whom to have children”

If you need a little beauty in your life right now, take a moment to lose yourself in this gorgeous piece that I commissioned from @anyachalina.bsky.social for @autonocast.bsky.social.

I call it "City of Dreams" and I can't wait to hang a high quality print of it in my home.

Can report back from the Charlotte No Kings that "free Palestine" is now, if not the normie lib position, then at least fully accepted among the normie libs. Lots of signs and flags scattered about, no apparent drama at all.

‘Everyone is terrified’: Business and government officials are afraid to cross Trump on tariffs
While lobbyists, business leaders, and lawmakers are worried about Donald Trump’s tariffs, there’s a culture of fear in Washington preventing many from speaking out.

New York Senators can’t even meaningfully take a position on Adams, Trump’s agent in their state. We don’t deserve the minority leadership. Give it to a Senator who actually has a backbone and an ounce of self-respect.

Dem voters are in a "kick out the bums" mood, and schumer's response has been to individually write out 47 "im a bum" signs and tape them to the backs of every member of his caucus. Doing that makes you a bad politician and an awful caucus leader

Truly one of history’s tragedies that we went from having Reid to having fucking Schumer, a man who would have been a feckless leader against Bush, never mind Trump

Outraged to see this kind of radical leftist ratfucking from some activist who knows nothing about how the Democratic Party actually works. Now to take a big sip of coffee and read his bio.
McConnell abused the filibuster to make America worse. Schumer is refusing to use the filibuster to... accomplish what, exactly?

I've said this a lot, but its really a problem right now that the Democrats don't have a singular Party Leader right now and are mostly relying on two legislative leaders to set national strategy

#Sudan 's army is on the cusp of retaking Khartoum, bringing hope that renewed stability will return to the capital.

But local relief workers are terrified of being targeted in a new wave of army reprisal killings, a trend throughout the war.

My latest for AJE.
