If you live in Ireland, remember that in recent memory a single rugby-loving bank CEO cost the taxpayer more than every single welfare recipient in the state COMBINED. #SpeirGorm
I would rather 50 people got benefits they didn't need than 1 went without food or shelter.
Hot take maybe but I actually don’t give a shit about benefit fraud.

I give a shit about multimillionaires and billionaires existing and not paying tax on their actual wealth.

0.2% growth in productivity over five years from "AI".

That's your revolution, lads, really?

The sort of blip that could be reversed by a particularly rainy bank holiday.
Anyway, tech-wise, AI will have a "positive effect on productivity growth", the OBR say, with a 0.2 percentage point impact in five years

Polanski expertly dismantling the "rich people will move if we tax them" narrative, while Denham nimbly demonstrates how very patriotic such people are.
Former Head of Comms for the IEA, Annabel Denham, says the super rich will leave if we have a wealth tax.

Yes, the very same IEA that brought us Liz Truss’ disastrous mini budget. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing.

These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.

Just looking at the population difference by county between now and Pre-Famine numbers.

For nine counties (Tipp, Mayo, Roscommon, Cavan, Clare, Monaghan, Leitrim, Sligo & Longford) %, the population drop between now and then is greater than the current population.

Really drives it home.

Book publishing does not need genAI. Its only purpose will be to devalue the work of the people in the industry, making it all the more difficult for them to make a living, and lower the quality of the books produced. If any publisher uses it, that is their aim, and they should be shamed for it.
Our campaign for the rights and interests of authors in the face of big tech companies using copyrighted work to train their generative AI models continues.

Tragic that the housing crisis is constantly framed as a "migration issue" rather than a "predatory landlord class" issue.
There's no place for institutional finance in rental markets. It's a predatory extraction machine that robs the poor and middle.

But one thing I'd add: we should stop calling these people "investors". They don't "invest". They buy up and milk existing assets. 🧵

You cannot solve the housing crisis without lowering the cost of housing so that people can buy or rent for less.

The Government refuse to countenance lowering the cost of property income (for landlords) or property assets (for developers).

This is the bedrock of a FG & FF coalition.

They chose.
