I am afraid this take is just a result of the fact that a lot of people who aren't good at cooking try to do something technical exactly once a year. Turkey *is* good. You just have to do more than "put it in the oven and cross your fingers".

Few films are in the same class as this; well, except for the 5 Powell & Pressburger made leading up to this (Colonel Blimp, A Canterbury Tale, I Know Where I'm Going, A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus, every one a masterpiece). Greatest filmmaker run in movie history? A case can be made.

77 years ago today, Satchel Paige helped the Cleveland Indians set a nighttime record for attendance in Major League Baseball. Coming off a 5-0 shutout a week ago, Paige blanked the White Sox 1-0, pushing Cleveland into first place. It was crucial to their pennant hopes. Me in "Our Team"

77 years ago today, Satchel Paige, at age 42, made his first start in the major leagues. The surprise announcement of Paige as the starting pitcher kicked off a frenzy for tickets, shattering the attendance record for a night game. Here’s what I wrote about it in “Our Team.”

Tonight's What's Going Through Your Mind was 42+ minutes and clocks in as the 6th longest jam in Phish history. I'm donating $40 for the jam (instead of $20) to @mbird.org. Anybody up for matching me?

Main character energy is OUT, this summer we’re bringing NPC energy. We’re posted up at the bar dropping lore and suggesting side quests. We’re leaning casually near a locked door and saying “I don’t think you have the key for that” when someone tries the handle. We’re staring at a tree.
