We call these pieces "Shared Responsibility".
I hate it when places try to make their bike racks look like some sort of art sculpture.

In the past month 3 transport routes have collapsed - but they aren't roads so don't make national news. All 3 have the same root causes, climate change, and Tory austerity passing responsibility for critical infrastructure on to charities and councils. This will happen more, and people will be hurt

One of the biggest tricks of the car industry was convincing us that parking private cars is a public responsibility, turning shared space into free storage for personal vehicles.

If your cost-benefit model tells you it isn't worth investing in a tram or light rail system for an urban area with a population of well over 1m, like Leeds-Bradford, your model is wrong and should be thrown in the bin.

Congestion costs £7.5bn a year and c.£17bn is needed to fix the worn out road network. In the last 30 years, the UK population has grown by 19%, but the number of cars has exploded by 56%. Outside of London, 81% of British households own at least one car!

...Research undertaken here in the UK found that 'paint-only' cycle lanes are actually worse (less safe) than nothing, and that to be better than nothing, a cycle lane needs wands or a kerb/curb.

Painted advisory cycle lanes increase risk of cyclist casualties, study finds
Research into London commutes also reveals stepped cycle tracks are more effective than kerb protected lanes in reducing injury odds

If this was a road for drivers there wouldn't even be a discussion. They would be working on a replacement right now. Because it's used by pedestrians and cyclists then oh no, it's too expensive. Active travel means second-class citizens.

Proud to see London is fast becoming a cycling city ⤵️

📈 Daily journeys are 12% up from last year to 1,500,000 trips
📈 Up by more than 40% since 2019

This is just the start, we’ll continue working with partners to improve safety and invest in more routes.

Great example of motornormativity on Cycleway 4 in Deptford  – one of London's key cycle routes.

Non-existent motor traffic gets a default green while cyclists (& probs pedestrians) have to wait ~1 min for the lights to change. We can do better!

Feel free to use this video as a counter argument for "cyclists always jump red lights"!

One of the most egregious examples I've ever witnessed. Slightly too dark for the camera to pick up the reg though.

Maybe it’s time for Putney’s politicians to grow up, find some political courage and own some more reality-based traffic reduction solutions for their blighted town centre - even if car drivists do wail and gnash their teeth about them?
Putney MP Fleur Anderson INSISTS that their traffic problems cannot be solved without reopening Hammersmith Bridge to cars. But this FOI request to TfL for comms b/w them & Wandsworth Council abt these problems discloses 138 pages of docs, in which there is not 1 single mention of Hammersmith Bridge

City: We unanimously declare a climate emergency! We must make change no matter what the cost, humanity's survival depends on it!

Community: Can we put in a protected bike lane to get more people cycling.

City: No, we'll lose parking spots.

Love how much energy we all spend circle jerking over classes of ebikes while car culture runs around with metrics of multiple tons, hundreds of horsepower, and top speeds only limited in triple digits.

Was going through old footage and noticed just how much TfL have narrowed the cycle lane (~30cm) on Clapham High Street after the summer resurfacing works. They also removed the wands segregating the cycle lane. Why???

CS7. A "high-quality cycle route" according to TfL.

Is this what a "high-quality cycle route" that should be suitable for all ages and abilities should look like?

Meanwhile editors and journalists *still* claim they can’t state e.g. “driver crashes into X” because it somehow “risks apportioning blame and prejudicing any investigation” 💩

Reach PLC is just anti-cyclist rubbish most of the time
Ah, but look what carnage this cyclist caused. No drivers involved in this one either, of course. Not even in the text.
