When J.D. Vance sees a forecast like today's, does he sing "I'm dreaming of a white Kwanzaa?"

The cartoonist @billamend.bsky.social deserves credit! At least it gets even more attention this way.

At least Zillow Sleuth Ed Whelan took leave from leading the Ethics and Public Policy Institute for a few weeks after falsely accusing one of Brett Kavanaugh's HS classmates of attempting to rape Christine Blasey-Ford.
Still has his job at Sequoia and board seats on companies. Still don’t see any Sequoia colleagues or investee CEOs or execs condemning his remarks.

This is terrific! A Tom Lehrer song I hadn't heard before, too.
not to mention what is probably the best of all holiday songs and assuredly the only one to rhyme "Yom Kippur" and "Mississippi" youtu.be/LslsgH3-UFU?...

I suspect the core issue here is that the components of wOBA are more stable than runs allowed. So wOBA may well correlate as well or better with runs than runs itself!

This is wrong. Exit poll data showed more Perot voters had Clinton as their second choice than H.W. Bush. In this analysis, Clinton's popular vote margin would have risen from 5.5% to about 7%:

#MLB My idea to #KillTheIBB
Change the walk¹ based on the count. A 3-2 walk is like now, but on 3-1, you go to second, forcing all runners. 3-0 puts you on third.

Make the pitcher throw at least a strike, preferably 2.

Thoughts?

Not humble brag: in my 20s I averaged 3 seconds faster than that 220 yard "sprint" time for a full marathon.
These are the ICE physical fitness requirements

*32 sit-ups in 1 minute or less
*22 push-ups in 1 minute or less
*220-yard sprint in 47.73 seconds or less
*1.5-mile run in 14 minutes 25 seconds or less

One-third of their tough guy fascist applicants fail to do this. 😂😂😂

In this piece @davidkurtz.bsky.social describes Trump's address yesterday to the assembled military brass as "... a long, rambling speech that could be confused with incoherence."

He subtly exposes executive dementia, which ceased being an issue in mainstream media after Biden dropped out.
What Trump proceeded to do yesterday, with Hegseth’s assistance, was to assert the power of his cult of personality over the military’s officer corps. If that made your stomach turn, Hegseth told them, then you should resign.

They're the only two players named Muncy in MLB history, but not only do they share a first name, they also have the same birthday, August 25th!
The players added the most across the 57 leagues were:

Max Muncy (cheating with two options): 219
Ryan Gusto: 204
Landon Knack: 192
Chris Martin: 191
Richard Fitts: 188

The next hitter added the most was Nolan Jones (170 adds).
Time to guess the five most-added names in the 57 NFBC Main event leagues.

#1 was added 219 times and #5 188 times

It's the same #1 in the NFBC Online Championship, but the next four are different.

When Maris hit 61, he was the MVP despite Mantle having the better year.

Judge was MVP when he hit 62.

So if Raleigh hits 63, his odds of winning MVP go up.

But maybe not as much as they would have 64 years ago...

This is awesome!

One man deserves the credit.

One man deserves the blame.
With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

I was first American in the 1995 Buffalo Marathon (a Canadian beat me).

My now spouse grew up there and cheered me on!
what is your personal sports highlight?

mine is: down 2 with like 4 seconds left, deflection sends ball into corner

guy throws the ball in to midcourt and i intercept it, and pass to my teammate who gets fouled shooting a 3

2/3 FT, go to OT

they are down 1, i stuff the j at the elbow. win

Alas, Paul Skenes and Tariq Skubal are slated to start different games in tomorrow's double header.

I don't get it if I'm Detroit: best chance to sweep is to match aces and win that matchup.

This increases odds of a split, which is good when you're under .500, but not over!
Much of the country has off. Could you imagine them actually making perfect baseball with the two best pitchers in baseball in a 1pm day game. Baaaah.
As much as I enjoy when people baseballsplain me, the difference in two-win expectancy between matching up the two aces and not matching up the two aces is a rounding error. It’s a stupid excuse to not match them up.

I suspect you mean Bill in this thread, not Hillary. But perhaps not, or maybe both!

Adults under 30 may have direct memory of her as a politician, but not him.
