FOR REAL - "Gracias for sus paciencia para mí espanol" has helped me learn so much Spanish because folks slow down a little and WANT TO SHARE THE LANGUAGE and sometimes they even share that they're working on ingles and goddamn if that doesn't make a community friend I don't know what does
You get so much goodwill in non-Anglophone just by learning enough to introduce yourself and explain that you only know a little bit of their language. They appreciate that you made an effort.

everyone's goal for 2026 should be getting into using RSS feeds & readers for updates on everyone's projects rather than relying on social media alone. I don't think "big, badly moderated forums where everyone hangs out and gets cranky" are working great for that.
