the trump administration is living inside a social media dreamworld where the US is literally all-powerful and can do anything it wants to anyone it wants, and the US media, rather than pointing out this is deranged madness, is trying to demonstrate its neutrality by dignifying the fantasy

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Dumb policy but like, the big AI companies all have:
1. Aligned themselves with Trump and Gulf royal families
2. Blew off electricity cost concerns for data centers
3. Advertised their products as mass unemployment machines

Time to lie in the bed they made!

The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.

This Disney-OpenAI deal is breaking my brain. It's not OpenAI paying for the right to use Disney characters, it's Disney paying THEM. All OpenAI does is give Disney access to its API so that they can use ChatGPT and Sora to replace their animators, other employees, and 3rd party contractors.

I’ve been writing about kei cars and minicars for years, and I’d be thrilled to see them legalized in the US. But I suspect this story/White House announcement is less than meets the eye.

Legalizing minicars is a heavy regulatory/political lift, not a “flip the switch” kind of change.

Quick 🧵
Trump Wants Asia’s ‘Cute’ Kei Cars to be Made and Sold in US
President Donald Trump, apparently enamored by the pint-size kei cars he saw during his recent trip to Japan, has paved the way for them to be made and sold in the US, despite concerns they’re too sma...

Watching all the defense wonks on my TL tear this NYT piece apart has been interesting. So many parallels to “Gadgetbahn” discourse in transportation policy. Editorial boards, pundits, and electeds are in love with the idea that “innovation” could relieve them of political problems and tradeoffs.
I see the gizmo cult has made its way into the NYT

It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.
The entrance to the 3-storey bike parking garage at Utrecht Central holding 12,500 bicycles. It’s free for the first 24 hours, linked to the station, and used by tens of thousands every day. This is what happens when a country treats bikes as real transport infrastructure, not an afterthought.
