Maybe the craziest part is that he played a warning message to make sure people living in the area could evacuate before the bomb went off.
Why he did that instead of trying to maximize the carnage the way mass shooters do is the biggest question to me. And we'll never know, apparently.

A guy who lost his mind to some of the wildest conspiracy theories available online built the biggest truck bomb in the US since OKC, detonated it in one of the most popular tourist areas in the country, on CHRISTMAS, and the media just kinda waved at it and then immediately moved on. Of all the inexplicable, shocking, disorienting events of this decade, the Nashville "Downtown" Christmas morning RV bombing and the national media's almost complete refusal to pay any real attention to it remains at or near the top of the list.
