This is nineteenth century Great Power “sphere of influence” talk, essentially no different than Russia‘s view of Ukraine or the rest of its “near abroad.”

It’s been said before, but really worth underlining now: The Trump admin is overthrowing the very post-1945 world order the US itself built.
“U.S. officials say that their relationship with Ms. Rodríguez’s interim government will be based on her ability to play by their rules, adding that they reserve the right to take additional military action if she fails to respect America’s interests.”

As Trump uses violence abroad and turns America into a global pariah, he’s also threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act at home to give himself dictatorial powers
Q: You pulled the National Guard out of Portland--

TRUMP: We did. And do you know that Portland, we got it down to almost no crime? We're allowed to go back in, but we'll go back in when the crime starts. We may use the Insurrection Act

The death toll from the attack on Venezuela is now at 80, per Venezuelan officials. That includes civilians. Every article about the attack, or how the US somehow claims it will run the country, should mention the fact that, you know, people died, including civilians. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

Congress is about to make a huge push into online ID verification, entrenching the power of big tech and mandating that they collect even MORE data on users. Mass surveillance/censorship laws are being framed as “child safety” but they’re really abt at removing LGBTQ ppl, repro justice info, etc.

Question: But the president’s statements that he believed the election was rife with fraud—those are statements protected by the First Amendment, correct?

Smith: Absolutely not. If they are made to target a lawful government function and are made with knowing falsity, then no, they are not.

I agree with Never Trumpers on a lot, but split hard on this: I do not think the Democratic Party needs to convince swing voters that Democratic candidates aren't too liberal. I think the party needs to convince swing voters that they themselves are actually quite liberal. They just won't admit it.

To a degree, this is becoming de facto true under Trump's aggressive deportation strategy. Victims who report crimes have been removed/deported, allowing their attackers to go free. Immigrants are increasingly becoming a class unprotected by criminal law.
Wouldn’t it follow then that individuals who are not under protection of the sovereign may be freely robbed, raped, assaulted and killed ? If so then aren’t all people within the borders of the USA demonstrably under the protection of the sovereign.

Heads up that this is authorization for Trump to create his own version of the Wagner Group. Which would bring the number of “armies” at his disposal to four:

*regular armed forces (most regulated)
*ICE (minimally regulated)
*private mercenaries (?)
*MAGA thugs/militias (rogue)

All pardonable

This has been the autocrat’s playbook for a decade or two: have friendly oligarchs buy up independent media and then they impose government-friendly editorial policies so the autocrat doesn’t have to get their hand directly dirty killing the free press.

The incredibly corrupt, lawless, & unconstitutional nature of the entire DOGE enterprise requires Elon Musk and lots of other people to spend the rest of their lives in jail.
The Wisconsin component of the analysis here is revealing. Evidence is consistent with DOGE strategically delaying contract terminations in WI until after the 2025 state Supreme Court elections to mitigate electoral risk.

Although Tom Ragsdale’s oil companies owe New Mexico more than $3.5 million for pollution and unpaid fees, the state has recovered only about $50,000.

Drillers across the industry have employed similar tactics in what is known as “the playbook.”

Oil executive Tom Ragsdale walked away from his old wells, making the pollution left behind the state of New Mexico’s problem. His tactics, however, are ubiquitous in the industry.

A recent modeling study in JAMA showed that if MMR vaccine rates drop 10% (easy to see happen with this), we’re back to 400,000-500,000 cases a year. Our current outbreak is 2,000. This turns the clock back to 1950 🚨🚨🚨
It is utterly catastrophic that RFK Jr. plans to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It’s a betrayal of science, ethics, compassion, and the people of the United States.

And it was also a specific goal of Project 2025 (page 254).

WOW. So this is obviously a huge violation of this man's rights, and it illustrates a few things we're seeing broadly:

- DHS officers are ignoring peoples' IDs and instead requiring screening through their own systems
- Confirms @404media.co's reports of use of DHS's facial recognition app.
