"All of those [punitive] approaches are designed to create the illusion that the problems are getting better, when ... it's just sweeping human beings under the rug without regard to their humanity, without regard to what really happens to them."
Unhoused people told us they already feel like they’re seen as problems to be solved, not people to be helped.

In reporting on the issue, we wanted to help ProPublica’s readers recognize the humanity of the people we had met and talked to.

12 years ago today, the heaviest rains from the Sept. 2013 floods inundated the Boulder and Larimer County foothills with 10-15”+ of rain, creating Colorado’s worst flood in decades.

9.08” fell in Boulder on Sept. 12, 2013 alone, with up to 15” in the foothills. Images/info below:

Oh, look, one more thing Republicans will blatantly ignore because it doesn't support their fucked up bullshit lies.

Let's do everything we can to make sure they can't.
In case y'all missed it - Utah Republicans ordered a study on transgender healthcare, expecting it to come back unsupportive.

Instead, it found that trans youth care was safe and effective, and that transgender youth need it.

Whoops.

Utah lawmakers’ own study found gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Will they lift the treatment ban?

Periodic reminder:Substack profits off Nazi pages bc they don't want to be "in the censorship business,"but they also won't host adult content,so they ARE in the "censorship business." They just think Nazis are better than pornographers.

This is why I will never give Substack a single shiny nickel.

Since none of y'all know, white vegans NEVER leave Indigenous people alone. Ever. We get constant bs over our food pathways and cultural practices, because colonisation isn't enough, trying to take our language and belief system isn't enough, they have to come for our food as well.

I was homeless and living in a shelter in 2019 there was a pavilion that set up three days a week that signed up folks for free cellphones, and very low cost smartphones (like $5 and $5-$10 a month data plans), if you had a SNAP card. Which the shelter helped you get if you don’t have it already.
Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop.

“If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???”

Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is unnecessary or a luxury, survive a month without it.

The US government literally stripping healthcare from us and practicing open eugenics, denying us vaccine access and shutting down funding for health research and health isn’t political? LOL LMAO
Someone told me my posts were too political and I should focus more on health.

Health IS political.

I wish it wasn’t. I wish we could agree that everyone deserves universal healthcare and a basic income. Access to food, meds and shelter.

Until that point, politics & health remain intertwined
