I always hated this pro-ai argument, and it literally just hit me why. And this might be my "too woke" take. They argue that "its going to happen so we should just accept it" "Nothing is going to stop it" "we should ignore the people refusing it"

Its a fucking rapist mentality.

Vávra: "I want longer games with amazing graphics not made by people at all and I'm not kidding"
the lead schmuck from warhorse studios (kingdom come deliverance) identifying a real issue (budgets and dev lengths are too high and long), misconstruing it’s nature (it’s “fact”??? that it has to be this way??), and coming to the conclusion that the dead brain plagiarism bot is our savior. fuck off

I play video games to experience doing cool and interesting things, not to watch cool and interesting things in a cutscene.

Can cutscenes happen, sure. But they shouldn't be the main delivery vehicle for those moments.

Fun fact. I've had arguments with game directors on this stance.
Not sure what you call it - it's not cognitive dissonance - it's 100% an artificial game - but half the team clearly wanted to make a movie, and if the player could just fucking co-operate and press the right buttons at the right time it would make their life so much simpler thanks.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is proof to me that AI will punch a hole clean through the entire art spectrum because as soon as it was used in something that made you feel something, 90% of so called critics went out of their way to go "well I think it's acceptable in this case"

Artists will keep being replaced and people will keep pretending to be outraged and then something will be released that makes them sad but In A Meaningful Way and they'll go "oh but it was only for" and it'll turn out it was only for a job that was previously done by a person.

Sorry I think using AI for placeholders is also bad
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know you only care about finished art but placeholder art also needs to be made by a human being who also needs to be paid for that

But placeholder midjourney slop cuts that artist out

I feel like the worst part about the current use of the word "indie" is that it means:
- "solo bedroom dev jobs by one trans lesbian furry in her bedroom"
- "15 people went to a publisher and got money to make a game"
- "this game is made by ex ubisoft employees and 500 other people"

You know. In case anyone wondered.

The whole article is insane, but this here is perhaps this is the best demonstration of how much they have apparently allowed their minds to get warped by their own creation.

(Contrast this with the notorious RCT discovery that AI actually slows down productivity.)

This. But also, remember that passion alone doesn't pay the bills. Most indies underprice their games, are ignored by algorithms, undersold, some even unfairly blocked from selling... So check that your money actually moves in the direction you want people surviving and making things.

The sheer number of weird, unreproducible bugs that also somehow resolve themselves without being fixed once a game goes live to the public is a stark reminder that gamedev isn't real and the fact any games exist at all is a minor miracle or black magic or Eldrich mass delusion...

If you are a consumer, if someone is trying to peddle Gen-AI tech or products made with Gen-AI assets/tech, that person and especially that company do not give a flying fuck about anything but scamming you of your $$. There is no moral or ethical ground in selling Gen-AI laced products and services.
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening

someone once sent me an except from a conversation in which someone asked a hater why he was doing what he was doing, and his response was basically "I don't think it's fair the person I'm targeting is happy and confident when I myself don't feel happy and confident" and I think about that a lot
I suspect I'll get crap for this, but I do think it's something we all need to be reminded of, especially fans and creators of things.
