I still have one more day left in the classroom but after my final eval today, I have officially passed student teaching.

I still have a couple of things left to turn in, but I’ve cleared the biggest hurdle in my journey to a Master’s Degree.

What a weight off the shoulders.

Kicking off a week of looking at the starting pitchers on the BBWAA ballot, I reckon with Félix Hernández's early flameout, the lack of Hall-bound starters in recent decades, and the reality of decreasing pitcher workloads and career lengths.

One last visit to another of my favorite Seattle bars-the Pike Brewing Taproom near Pike Place Market.

I’ve had some fun times in this place, I am sad to see it go. It will definitely be missed, along with Kate’s Pub. I wish my favorite pubs would quit closing.

It was seven years ago today that the #Mariners traded The Big Maple to the #Yankees, and I am stuck wondering- why is time passing so quickly? It feels like maybe two years ago.

Not to be a dick, but my newsletter is six years older than Substack. Baseball Prospectus, as a paid product, is 13 years older. Also, "audience-backed media" covers radical concepts like "books," "magazines," and "newspapers." The idea that people shouldn't pay for words is a recent invention.
We have to start separating Substack’s failure from the model of audience-backed media. They are not the same thing. Substack is failing as a business AND they are failing creators but the audience model works

The #BlueJays failed to end their 32-year #WorldSeries title drought with last night’s loss to the Dodgers.

But least Canadians can now turn to hockey, where they have also not won a #StanleyCup in 32 years.

It is truly the most American thing that the World Series MVP needs a translator to take his post game interview

Now that the World Series is over, let’s talk about position player needs for the #Mariners.
Let’s talk position player needs
Seattle is expected to lose three starting position players to free agency without clear-cut replacements in place.

Cal Raleigh hit 2 HR & grand slam on 4️⃣ year anniversary of MLB debut (July 11, 2021). Cal also became seventh player with 38+ HR in team’s first 94 G. The first: Babe Ruth.

What else do Cal & Babe have in common? Both made MLB debut on July 11! 🤯 (July 11, 1914). #TheMayerGWS

Seeing Julio Rodriguez 12th in OPS among CFs only reinforces that while his other numbers are better he’s not hitting the ball hard at all.
As of this morning, Byron Buxton was first in OPS among all #MLB center fielders, holding a slight edge over Pete Crow-Armstrong. #MNTwins #Cubs
