““They dragged little Greta [Thunberg] by her hair before our eyes, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did everything imaginable to her, as a warning to others,” the Turkish activist ErsinÇelik, a participant in the Sumud flotilla, told Anadolu news agency.”+

Yep! There is even great research that shows that these are precisely the kind of people, who would want to join the secret police -- because they are not good for anything else: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but as campaigns unfold, you can fool fewer of the people.

Is there a reason I ask that the Times are using a picture of asylum seekers in a boat to describe rules for migrants who came on legal routes such as skilled worker visas for doctors?
thetimes.com
Tough new conditions to be imposed on migrants who want to settle in the UK will not apply to more than a million people who arrived in the UK under the post-Brexit immigration surge
Labour’s tough new rules will not apply to migrants already in UK

For many reasons, the traditional way judges convince people their decisions are grounded in the law is to write opinions explaining them, not to issue unreasoned, controversial decisions and then give interviews claiming the decisions were apolitical.

I'm teaching my judicial politics module at UCL again this term which means that I'm keen on new resources for students. In particular, let me know if you published a dataset on courts/judicial politics/legal mobilization and it is not yet listed here: michalovadek.github.io/judicial-pol...

The Pentagon demands journalists to sign a pledge not to obtain or report any information - even if unclassified - unless it has been expressly authorized by the government.

To be clear, as a reporter who is also covering different aspects of 🇺🇸 military, I will never sign such restrictions.

We know that Putin and other dictators try to build a new world order. Soft power plays a crucial role in this.

Using RDD and elite survey data from Denmark, we show that losing candidates express greater concern about electoral fairness.
