The idea that Americans are unusually quiescent is a weirdly load-bearing and ideologically widespread position, one that has survived multiple massive protest waves and visible community organizing in the face of violent state repression with nary a ripple. It's really odd
I see this take around from time to time and totally disagree. ICE just murdered a woman standing up to them. No Kings is among the largest protests in history.

The complacency is coming from elites in media, business, universities, and the Democratic leadership

if SCOTUS hadn’t fucked it I remain firmly convinced that Smith would have nailed Trump to the wall with the J6 case

everything that’s happened since is on their hands
BREAKING on MS NOW:

Jack Smith, in his opening statement to House Judiciary, says:

"Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and to prevent the lawful transfer of power."

My sense is that the “male loneliness crisis” is not really about addressing men’s emotional needs but rather the relatively newfound absence of having someone to perform domestic labor for you quietly in the background now that there is a longer gap between your mother and your wife doing it

It's not just me. I know of many Black people who land jobs in highly visible or prestigious places and become scapegoats for the resentments of others.
I can tell you some of the most horrible experiences with racism have come downstream from the idea that I beat a out a white person for a job. Even when I in fact did not. The fantasy is enough to translate into physically threatening harrasment

there is really no difference between the current administration and having the country run by david duke
On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

i mostly come away from these interviews thinking the white house is a disorganized, dysfunctional mess and that wiles and the rest of them are dumb as bricks, and there may not be much else to it
i have no idea what to make of those big wiles interviews. all these people, including wiles, are brazen liars and most of them are out to get each other.

He is literally the worst person in the world, and his statement this morning about Rob Reiner is possibly one of the worst things said by a U.S. President in any of our lives.
the way I feel about everyone who voted for him. the way I feel about the otherwise *seemingly* smart or kind people adjacent to my life who justified it for one reason or another. it gets worse every day. the rot.

Huh. That keeps happening. Maybe a lesson there.

The Trump regime thought Kilmar Abrego Garcia was an easy target. Few would care, and it’d show that the facts don’t matter.

Some pundits and consultants insisted his innocence was irrelevant, the volk had spoken, it’d be dumb to fight.

Both proven wrong. Cracked the mystique, strengthened spines.
i think you can make a pretty credible case that taking a stand on abrego garcia gave the administration its first high profile, high salience defeat

The only real explanation for the maniacal persecution of Kilmer Abrego Garcia is that he, by an accident of history, ended up being the face of this administration’s cruelty. For that he must be constantly punished.
