Intro post:
I'm Sio (they/she)
Right now I'm a TEFL/TESOL teacher in 🇰🇷
I like cats (I am graciously allowed to live with 2), trees, k-pop, happy endings (not a euphemism) and food. I believe that true kindness and viewing other humans as humans will change the world. More to come when I change jobs!

related to this a lot of people in the pundit class need to learn how to just be annoyed by someone or something without turning it into What’s Wrong With America
i am fascinated by how nate silver turns everything he doesn’t like into a bespoke ideology. it’s not that he is annoyed by HCR, it is that she is a dreaded “ism” responsible for everything he doesn’t like about the democratic party. same with bluesky.

The original definition of academic freedom came from the American Association of University Professors--the union for professors--in response to suppression against professors for being "too left" & it focused a LOT on universities not being beholden to corporate funders or wealthy benefactors...🧵

Again: all of this is elite radicalisation and none of it is organically arising from the public. It is MPs and the press flame-grilling their own brains on social media, then inflicting their poisonous spiteful idiocy upon everyone.

It's time for slower art. The constant churn and grind pushed by techno capitalism has reached its inevitable conclusion with AI slop. Let's make our best work and be patient with our process. Let's release art that's worth stopping for and savoring. Let's show each other what humans can do

I understand that a lot of folks have been misled by fear-mongering and powerful regressive voices but it’s still astonishing to me that so many have fallen for the idea that oppressively policing other people’s gender identity and expression could in any way be part of an enlightened future.

If you had it you wouldn't harm & you'd do your best to mitigate suffering. People either don't know what words mean or think there's some other way we get a better world than caring about people. Sorry there's not a shortcut around that.
Don't listen to anyone telling you we don't need empathy. I can't remember which billionaire was trying to tell us empathy is overrated. Do you know the meaning? Being able to get how someone else feels. It can't be applied wrong. If you had it towards someone you couldn't be bigoted against them.

No one “deserves” to starve.

No one “deserves” to be homeless.

No one “deserves” to be abandoned.

No one “deserves” to be mistreated.

As a society we should be able to agree that food, healthcare & housing are basic human rights.

We should stop leaving people behind.

Which views the BBC considers unacceptably political in its presenters is particularly telling, isn't it?
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

I just spent 30 minutes trying to remember the name of an immigration expert (academic and former political advisor) to quote in a letter to my MP. At 5.30 am on a Saturday. How is your December going?

People get so pissy when I speak out against breeding, as if I'm being pointlessly mean and grumpy about their favorite color or clothing brand. Cats are not colors. They are not clothing. They are sentient creatures who should not have to suffer for human convenience or aesthetic preferences.
🔍NEW STUDY highlights the welfare challenges facing purebred cats in the UK and presents a new framework that encourages an evidence-based perspective.

Trump was inevitable because nothing was being done to stop him. Him being in the rich white man club meant he could try to overthrow the government & not end up behind bars & be elected again. Not any leftist who didn't vote's fault. But being so pathetic they couldn't beat him was the democrats'.

Today was a day. Due to having to suddenly care for my cat, I left bacon under the grill for a couple of extra minutes and it set on fire. Then when I was cleaning it up, I knocked a glass jar that then smashed on the floor. I need to put out my recycling but am convinced I'll get locked out.
