Silly Jimmy Kimmel. He should have just called for all homeless people to be killed and he’d still have a job.

Debate is a hobby.

It’s not a thing you do to understand another person.

Listening is a thing you do to understand someone.

Figure skating world championships were considered to be for men only until 1902, when Madge Syers showed up and took home silver and the ISU went "whooooops guess we need to segregate them."

It happened again in 1992 Olympic skeet shooting: Zhang Shan took gold and then they segregated the event.

Me rolling up to the lecture with the line "The dropping of the atomic bomb was a comedic action"
I am fairly pleased with this table that I cobbled together for a guest lecture next week on the different narratives about the use of the atomic bomb in World War II, and creating an example of ways in which they can be compared to each other in an overarching way.

"More people died of Covid in the US than in the Civil War."

i have bad news about the US's cultural response to the civil war lol
I’ve pitched multiple stories to editors about how our utter denial to reckon with 2020-2021 has had severe repercussions and no editors ever want those stories and it’s because we’re all still in utter denial. This country will be utterly fucked until we face what happened
It is truly wild that it is estimated that more than 20 million people died of Covid and the prevailing vibe is that the world overreacted. That is an astonishing toll! More people died of Covid in the US than in the Civil War. www.pbs.org/newshour/hea...

Optimist: the cup is half full.

Pessimist: the cup is half empty.

Museum worker: is the cup an accessioned item? If so, what story does it hold? Has anyone measured it & tagged it? Do we have room & conservation budget for it? How many cups do we need, anyway? Are we a cup museum?
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Nonprofits: imagine a world where everyone’s cups are full—what does the cup feel like in your hand? what can you taste, as you picture the cup? where will the cup be in ten, twenty, one hundred years?
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Mircobiologist: the cup is full. Just look at what grew on this plate when wd swabbed the inside of the cup and the sequences we recovered from the filtered air.
