Je dois dire que je pense cela depuis mon inscription ici. J'essaie autant que possible d'encourager les gens à se trouver une bonne instance sur le Fediverse avec le réseau qui leur convient le mieux (Mastodon, Misskey, Friendica, Peertube, Bookwyrm, Pixelfeed, etc.). Et je suis prête à aider!

I did a minithread on why I think a lot of this is, but the main takeway, is that I think they believe queer people in general and trans people in specific make their audience less attractive to whoever they are trying to get money from.

They actively want us gone because it will make them more.

thai is what I really want people to understand:

it doesn't matter how good of a poster you are or how many people you attract to the site if those users don't make the user base wealthier or more exploitable for money.

if you make the user base "worse" in terms of potential income, you are "bad"

There's no apparent reason to this except Singal understands site staff are using "waffles" as a meme to dismiss trans people, a thing Singal wants to do. "Waffles" are now a floating signifier.

I'd close by saying it's weird, to see this kinda childish, contemptuous behavior from orgs like Bluesky or Tangled who you'd think want to attract users to their sites. But Jay doesn't really…seem to want you on this site. She seems to want the queers to go away without her having to make us leave.

Personnellement je vais être de moins en moins ici, et de plus en plus sur Mastodon? Vous faites ce que vous voulez, mais si vous voulez un réseau décentralisé, ça semble la meilleure alternative, plutôt qu'une plateforme qui va devenir un Twitter 2.0 dans 2 ans.

The function of the waffles joke is an in-group signifier. Singal, Graber, and Oppiliappan are showing in-group solidarity; they're all in on a joke. The joke is they have institutional power, and you don't, and they feel contempt for you, that you still want to have opinions about how power's used.

Is any of this "offensive"? No, but it's instructive. Notice the people blurting "waffles!" above aren't internet randos, like the reply gals that got Jay so upset to start with. They're operators of startups and journalists who were published in the economist, like, last week.

They're an ingroup.
