IMO many Americans don't even buy guns for personal protection or to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. They simply have a shopping addiction

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered.

Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.

Their inaction is deadly.

Newsom and ambitious people like him want Americans to wait this out so that the power structure *as it currently exists* will be intact for them to grab when things “go back to normal.” Pushing back on power now would mean less power for them when it’s their turn. Real change is not their goal.
The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle.

Don't give them one.

Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.

It’s essential to realize how much of our “legacy” infrastructure was entirely speculative in nature and not guided by an official planning process. Infrastructure unlocks denser development, which fuels higher transit ridership; it’s only relatively recently that that relationship became inverted.
2) I’d like to hear more about the private sector role/models. Transportation infrastructure is rarely itself profitable, but the point is to unlock value, especially in land. This is something public authorities are terrible at (sometimes barred from trying) but the private sector offers examples.

My hot take is that nobody would argue about if e-books or audio books really count as "reading" if everybody involved in the argument didn't see "reading" as a moral virtue as opposed to just a thing you can do like sitting down or folding clothes

OK, gonna throw this spicy bomb out there.

If you're fortunate enough to have disposable income, then right now it is your duty to use that income wisely. You have agency over how you spend it and you should own how you spend it.

Your decisions do, in fact, affect stock prices of big corporations.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.
