Basically the entire country shifted a tiny bit more to the right from 2020 to 2024 and that made all the difference.

And it was mostly people's [wrong] perceptions on inflation that made the difference. Something Harris could never effectively counter as the incumbent VP defending the admin.

i posted this to badsite on 2018-07-28: "I've been mulling for the last two years the idea that the GOP's Southern Strategy was like the Bene Gesserit's Kwisatz Haderach breeding program and Trump is Paul Atreides fucking it up for them and they don't know how to put the sandtrout back in the qanat"
there is a reason that Trump is striking out in front of his own district court judges and that the Heritage Foundation is imploding. it's because this isn't true. people have been saying this for years. they were right for Gettier case reasons.

Trump is in many ways the natural endpoint of Reaganism and Gingritchian partisanship, but it's in a logical extreme way, not an inevitable conclusion way
The left will absolutely eat you alive if you note either:
-Trump is a contingent, unpredictable twist no one could have seen coming, or
-Trump is not the natural progression of Bush Republicanism

people on the left like to talk about how Trumpism is a result of the failures of neoliberalism, and while that's not-not accurate, the case is far less tortured that it's a result of the failures of neoconservatism and the GFC/GWOT
Trump as populist is a product of the Bush administration's *failures*, not its successes bsky.app/profile/jsam...
Reagan and Bush were necessary but not sufficient to produce Trump.

"Kavanaugh Stop" went from a skeet on here to Bluesky meme to crosspollinating over on X to Brett Kavanaugh's burner account seeing it there to a whiny defensive footnote about it in a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States.

Check out the Kavanaugh FN 4; I think it's pretty clear that the Kavanaugh Stop thing has gotten to him:

The Biden DOJ had a perfectly legal avenue to release this to the public—a response to a FOIA request. They may have even been legally obligated to produce it in response to the FOIA request. And they decided not to, to protect Donald Trump’s reputation? What?
Found the Associated Press article where the existence of this letter was first disclosed two years ago, in response to a FOIA request

It's definitely real

Found the actual men in women's bathrooms assaulting women.
ICE agents illegally break into a woman's bathroom in a NY nutrition bar manufacturing plant. "Pull up your pants," says a male agent. The agents only had a warrant to review employer documents. They didn't have a warrant to search for, detain, or arrest anyone there.

Like, it's great that Mamdani's smile creates better vibes than a scowl, but maybe Ezra can talk about how huge swathes of the electorate were completely unaware what tariffs were or why people were so upset with "Bidenism" despite it producing massive material benefits?

To be fair to Ezra, he does specifically talk about this, but also seems completely uncurious about what instruments drove this "vibe shift" and how did the narrative get set so much that elite institutions bought it. The information environments here are critical and his institution got us here.

Meanwhile Regime Candidates keep losing elections.

These morons are still dangerous in the way that a fool with a machine gun is more dangerous than a sane person with one.

But they are not consolidating durable control and they also do not seem, somehow, to know that.
