The power combo for every right-wing populist party is “we’ll kick out the immigrants, and spend the money we save on YOU.”

Republicans are too anti-welfare state to go there. So their version is “your house will be cheaper when the migrants are gone, also here’s a massive healthcare bill.”
I will never understand how so many people argue “the government can’t effectively provide healthcare” when it’s one of the few things we know, for a fact, it can do, because it already does this. It’s like claiming the government can’t deliver mail. Buddy sit down you’re not gonna believe this

I'm old enough to remember Paul Wellstone's death, and how Republicans led the dumbest pundit dickheads in a round of schoolmarm scolding after liberals celebrated Paul's life in partisan terms. All I can say is: Get over it. This is how we should pay respects to one of our own: Partisan as fuck.

I think it's kind of beautiful that this was Rob Reiner's final line on television

“Oh you mean THIS gate key.”

“I’m just as God made me, sir.”

“I had some more fried food for lunch.”

Even the throwaway lines by day players in Rob Reiner movies landed. He delighted in everything.

Bluesky *does* reign supreme, on a per capita basis at least, for people who love to mistake descriptive statements for normative ones and to be certain sure you know that they're angry.
okay somehow this totally banal observation about the relative scale and influence of social media platforms has made some people extremely mad
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

I’m not even going to publish a copy of Trumps comments about Reiner and his wife. But occasionally he reminds me that he is simply one of the worst, most degenerate individuals who has ever existed in American public life. Hard to think of any more vicious, vile and sociopathic.

Listening my younger coworkers talk about how Jess's dad on New Girl died. One of them thinks maybe he was also a director, and another thought he was on another TV show, which turned out to be The Bear.

Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi killers, became an Australian citizen 3 years ago.

His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship."

He took 5 bullets, and fears he'll lose his left arm.

This is Trump celebrating the murder of Rob Reiner. That's what it is. That's what we should call it.

People who said this sort of thing about Charlie Kirk were fired, arrested and banned from the US.

Fiddler on the roof, but with ICE agents playing the part of Cossacks. I know people think of Fiddler as a heartwarming story about a funny man doing Ya-ba-dibba-dibbas, but it's literally about pogroms like this
Masked men wearing ICE vests—but who refused to present a warrant or identify themselves—roped off a construction site, trapping two men on a roof for hours in subzero temps. Protesters gathered. Masked men eventually left, and one man on the roof was taken away by ambulance kstp.com/kstp-news/to...

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

Rob had to pick another project, even though he had his heart set on SHAWSHANK. He went with an adaptation of a book by his old friend Alan Zweibel. Yes, that's right. He made NORTH instead of SHAWSHANK.

Devastated to hear about Rob Reiner.
Has there ever been a better, more eclectic consecutive run of films than Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand By Me, Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men?!

Roomba maker iRobot is filing for bankruptcy after being steamrolled by cheap Chinese rivals. The 2023 acquisition attempt by Amazon got blocked by regulators because Amazon might favor iRobot while selling vacuums on its marketplace.

So instead we get… bankruptcy. Congrats? 🤦🏾‍♂️

Shocked by the awful death of Rob Reiner. I spoke with him for over an hour last night. We talked about his work and his plans for the future. I always enjoyed his company. We met at his Dad's in 1975. Last thing he said to me was "See you next year.." Such a terrible end. Such a sweet man.

Rob Reiner's first seven films: 1. Spinal Tap. 2. The Sure Thing. 3. Stand By Me. 4. THE PRINCESS BRIDE. 5. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. 6. Misery 7. A Few Good Men. Good lord. Even Spielberg included 1941 in his first seven.

And that was after playing Michael Stivic. I hope this news isn't true. But...

Don't know where to begin in paying proper tribute to Rob Reiner. When I was a teen in the '80s, getting into movies, he was one of my first favorite directors. And as someone who loves vintage TV, it's always been a delight to see him pop up in random '60s episodes as Hollywood's resident hippie.
