After a recent trip to Gettysburg, I feel motivated to tackle the alt-history I've been working on periodically for the past two years. It's called "The American Assumption: An Alternate Reconstruction" where VP Johnson is killed alongside President Lincoln, as was the original conspiracy.

As a general rule, most people decrying "government intervention" regard state activity they approve of as merely ensuring the default, correct state of affairs and state activity they disapprove of as an artificial and unnatural infringement on it.
in general the American individuality and distrust of government disappears once criminal justice enters the conversation

I think what MTG et al are trying to do is de-couple MAGA from Trump.
Up to this point there is no MAGA without Trump and on way or another he will be gone sooner rather than later. For them Epstein is just a convenient way to continue what they've started after that

I mean honestly, it *does* explain how elite backlash against MeToo was about as intense as the reaction to 9/11.
My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far
