I know, I know, polycrisis, existential risks, elite impunity & brain rot, but I’m over here still thinking about why street urchin, aspiring detective, and radio mad scientist Skeet Wheeler—father of Vineland’s Zoyd (who never shrugs)—has the last word in “Shadow Ticket” if not in Pynchon’s oeuvre.

👇🎯 ~1/3 to 1/5 of the electorate in ~every rich democracy today supports far right/authoritarian parties. The difference, in 🇺🇸, is that of our political institutions are deeply minoritarian & antidemocratic (bsky.app/profile/mcop...) & have enabled that minority to become a governing majority.
One-third is the cursèd number in political psychology: in many Western countries over the past century, ~1/3 of the population prefer authoritarianism to democracy.
That's about the proportion of Germans who voted to make Hitler Chancellor & even now in Europe, 1/3 of whites want authoritarianism.

Grok stands as the clearest example of an AI that is both ideologically aligned and operationally embedded in a social media platform, says @mkirschenbaum.bsky.social. "Its mechanisms should be taken apart under bright lights, in much the same way people learn how to defuse a bomb."

The problem with ICE is not insufficient training or even training content.

It’s creating an agency where you give people guns and tell them to terrorize Brown people and then recruit people excited to do that.

The decision has been made to break an American city. It is an experiment. We must do all we can (legally) to help Minneapolis hold on.
if you want to know what it is like in minneapolis, I don’t even have to scroll on facebook to find a horror story. it’s basically my whole feed.

everyone i know in minneapolis is seeing ICE take people—at gas stations, taquerias, bus stops, schools. just snatching random people.

Welcome to Minnesota, fuckers. Also this is super disturbing because the ICE agent's assault rifle appears to fire as he falls down.
