"Stop hitting yourself" as political press conference.
Homan: "I begged for the last two months on TV for the rhetoric to stop. I said in March -- if the rhetoric doesn't stop, there is gonna be bloodshed. And there has been. I wish I wasn't right. I don't want to see anybody die."

We call for a deescalation of tensions from both sides, the murderers and the people being murdered

We've had to sit through five solid years of discourse about how "learning loss" calls into question the wisdom of COVID lockdowns. Are any of these same pundits going to pipe up about the societal effects of five year-olds being arrested on their way to school by men in tactical combat gear?
ICE agents in Minnesota detained at least four children from the same school district, including a 5-year-old, deepening skepticism about the Trump administration’s claims of targeting violent criminals. https://wapo.st/4sQVmpA

The ACLU has a Mobile Justice app that will automatically record video and send it to your local ACLU affiliate if you get attacked by ICE and they try to delete your video or steal your phone. It’s now available in 17 states and Washington D.C.

The narrative of the ICE shooting outside of the US is very much not "woman killed, but she was being dangerous and not following orders :( "

it's simply "unarmed mother executed by masked government agent." Because much of the rest of the world doesn't think disobeying a cop forfeits your life

You should be embarrassed to be a member of congress and issuing anything other than impeachment resolutions. You're in the model UN. They should give you legos and a propeller hat

If you thought AI peaked with uncanny images of hands with seven fingers and Google telling you to eat rocks, here's another feather in its cap: it now allows companies to make 5000 spam calls in a five-minute period! Everyday I feel better about lighting the planet on fire for this tech revolution!

It's fitting that the cover on AI mindlessly apes an earlier creation and also displaces workers while elevating Silicon Valley plutocrats.

The US attack on a Venezuelan boat is grotesque, plainly illegal, and not in any way unprecedented. Kissinger's directive in Vietnam was "anything that flies on anything that moves." Madeline Albright said it was "worth it" when asked about 500,000 Iraqi children who were killed by US sanctions.

Pathological conflict avoidance has just never been an inspiring political philosophy and never will be.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

After spending nine months in an Israeli prison without trial, 16-year-old Mohammed Zaber Ibrahim, a Palestinian American teenager from Florida, was released on Thursday. He was arrested in February when soldiers raided his West Bank home in the middle of the night.

This is always how centrist critiques of the Left work, by avoiding substantive discussions of complex social issues in favour of abstract philosophical debates.
the idea is that moral clarity or certainty is somehow dangerous. of course, everyone who argues this is also morally certain, just about different things. this is just a way of devolving the debate into abstraction.

I think this is largely due to the right's success making 'political' a toxic term. 'Political' is a lot like 'elite' or 'politically correct,' terms only used in opposition and never self-applied. Hard to defend the necessity of doing politics when it's only something other people do!
This brain-dead discourse is *everywhere* and it drives me insane.

Yet another chance to remind everyone that, in 2021, the Trailblazers had the chance to hire Becky Hammon (a 6x WNBA champion with 7 years' assistant coaching experience) as head coach, but instead went with Chauncey Billups, who had barely a year of assistant coaching experience.

It's genuinely depressing that there is really no one in either party in America arguing that immigration is actually a good thing. The differences between Dems and Repubs right now on this issue are only in how draconian the militarisation of the border should be.
When will be ready for honest pragmatic conversation about human mobility and citizenship in a changing world — rather than demonising parts of our population? #NomadCentury

The Attorney General of Texas just declared transgenderism a form of "leftist terrorism" while America's leading political pundits are mired in a conversation about why the Left needs to turn the temperature down in our political discourse.
Citing the “martyrdom” of Charlie Kirk, Texas AG Ken Paxton says his office is pursuing sweeping undercover investigations into “leftist” groups. “To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."

Why does "turning the temperature down" in our political discourse only ever involve lionising people who have spent their entire careers creating division and turning the temperature up?

This is clearly serious and scary but also just so sad. I continue to be amazed at how pathetic the vision of masculinity at the core of the MAGA movement is. Just the most try hard, cartoonish, insecure take on manhood. As a parody of toxic masculinity this would be mocked as way too heavy handed.
