I am strange enough to have got this one in two. But starting with ‘youth’ was a temporary peccadillo
A tribute to yesterday's Wordle, which annoyed me even though I got it in three:

The only thing preventing the right joining “people want to come to all these countries” and “these same countries have falling birth rates” in a very simple fashion is stupidity. Or racism.
YES YES YES thank you @georgemonbiot.bsky.social 🙏

😩AT LAST someone rasiing the alarm about what Europe's plummeting brith rates really mean!!

"In reality, without immigration there will be no Europe, no civilisation and no one left to argue about it."⚠️

It's. that. simple.

And have you noticed a big uptick in “benefits” stories at the moment?

Probably completely unrelated(🤔) to the fact we’ve had the longest run with no small boat crossings for 2 years, and the latest immigration stats are down at pre-pandemic levels…

They’ve gotta find a scapegoat somewhere🙄

Fun fact: For the movie Alien, they actually used a man in a practical suit because the studio was unable to afford a real Xenomorph.

I'll also send one of these and a print entirely for free to one person who reposts this.

I know people love this book and I will not let it be lost.

I will not let my ex-publishers, who ran off with £20,000+ of my combined earnings from it and six other books, win.

Many thanks for any shares.
If you would like a signed Everything Will Swallow You hardback for RRP + P&P, I have a fabulous selection of art by my mum, Jo, which I'm sending out for free (one linoprint with each book). Let me know your address via [email protected] while stocks last.

Sorry, this is just for UK folk, BUT...

This. This. For goodness sake, this. Presenting search results in banal text is not ‘amazing technology’, it’s you losing the capacity to read, understand, process and act, based on technology that still, three years in, has no real reason to exist.
I mean, "AI" doesn't know anything today a web search didn't know yesterday. The AI will customize & direct the search for you, is all—at the cost of significant error (not to mention missing things that its algorithms incorrectly determine are irrelevant).

Thanks to @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social for this package and kickstarting my plans to read at least SOME things that aren’t serious, work-related non-fiction. Bonus Peej for #ProofOfCat purposes.

Lots of good and quite radical ideas for UK tax reform here from Dan Neidle. The inability of government after government to implement anything like this - and instead favouring silly stunts - has me despairing. on.ft.com/4nu8NrZ
Stop talking about wealth taxes — make these reforms instead

As I understands it, the cultural divide between America and China, re: AI, basically boils down to "I'm gonna make a computer that's God (and you can fuck it if you want)" vs "I'm gonna make a computer that's really good at stuff (and can learn to be better)"

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

Budget Gladwell here follows any argument that appears valid - bananas are yellow. School buses are yellow. School buses are bananas! And is getting more harmful as he tries to create his own thinking.
Matthew Syed's latest drivel is an absolute masterclass in conflating a particular group of older, white, relatively financial secure, working class voters with the entirity of the low income population.

Commonsense voters see the abject folly of the West’s purity spiral
Ordinary people will no longer stand for being told common sense is ‘far right’ — and quite rightly so

So many times - this (except, lucky me, for the mum bit)
Anyone who uses the phrase 'commonsense' (is that even one word?) just means 'what I think is right and if you disagree with me you're wrong.'
My mum does it all the time.
