The target audience for AI is people from 1990s infomercials who literally can’t do anything, people who open a cabinet and 50 Tupperware containers come tumbling out at them before they slip on a banana peel and can’t get up again.
this is demonic. sorry to say but if you do this you should be shipped to a desert island away from the rest of us who still have human souls

It's difficult at times to hold both "this admin is doing lasting and serious damage to our institutions and the globe" and "this admin is full of the most bafflingly incompetent idiots you've ever seen who fall over themselves like a Vaudeville act constantly."

The duality of man is incredible.

I know everything is getting worse and Trump is trying to dismantle America, but all of this is a sign of a very weak, desperate Presidency that realizes it's unpopular and has lost the majority.

The economy sucks, the Epstein Files aren't released, and people didn't vote for a MAGA dictatorship.

There's been too much doomerism lately, so I wrote about a study on "U-Turns" since 1900 showing how democracy actually gets strengthened after a lot of these fascist episodes. www.splinter.com/study-dont-g...
Study: Don’t Give Up Hope
Splinter is your home for news and opinions that challenge power in our political and economic system that's becoming more unhinged each and every day.

On this date: September 21, 1975, 50 years ago today, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. As noted in the ad below, it was his first Twin Cities appearance. The $6 tickets were sold out when this ad ran in the Tribune a week before the show.

Cancelling Disney+ is fine and well, but here's another strategy that will really get the local affiliates' attention, and thus ABC's attention.

CALL. THE. LOCAL. ADVERTISERS.
Luckily, Sinclair has a helpful database of all their stations, so you can see if they're operating in your area and respond accordingly.

Reminder: before you go full-on defeatist about the rule of law, keep in mind it remains often effective on a micro-level. It’s on the macro- that the FedSoc types have killed it. Hard work and good lawyering can make a difference for regular people — though not always, and not all of them.

Re Kimmel, it's important that Disney has left itself an out--it is a "suspension," not a cancellation or firing. What happens in the next two days--reaction within the company but also in the press, in the industry, in Washington, among consumers, and on social media--may affect how this plays out.

Every major talent that works for ABC and Disney should refuse to show up for work until Jimmy Kimmel is reinstated.

Marvel movies need to shutdown. Ditto the sitcoms.

Collective boycott.

Corporations love money more than anything,& this will harm them and force them to do the right thing.

I think the best place to be right now is deeply worried but stopping short of going full Doomer to remember that Donald Trump has like a 34% approval rating and if you’ve already granted him God-King powers in your mind you’re falling for what he wants everyone falling for.
Crucial to distinguish between

a) the Right claiming the Kirk murder is akin to the 1933 Reichstag fire (and demanding drastic state repression in response)

and

b) an actual comparison between the situation in the United States today and Germany in early 1933.

A few thoughts on both:
I had a great conversation with @lincolnsquare.media about where we are today: About political violence and the Right’s desire for escalation.

But also about how we got here: About the recent history of the GOP and the rise of Trumpism. And, finally, about where America might go from here:

The reason affluent media people are such suckers for “civility” is that the actual content of most politics has no real stakes for them personally. If you want to find these people’s true political feelings, mess with their money.

The reason it was so important to talk about how invading cities with the US military over nothing was a sign of weakness, not strength, was because they have basically no more steps on the escalation ladder. Everything they are calling for and threatening to do they've already basically done

As someone who spent many hours listening to Kirk’s show on AM radio, I would say that he made Rush Limbaugh seem like Walter Cronkite by comparison, in terms of rhetorical tone and empirical rigor. The subtext of every show was “You don’t hate the left enough.”

Utah was the first state to allow open carry on campus. A would-be assailant could walk right onto campus armed as they please and nobody could’ve done a thing about it.
In 2014, Anita Sarkeesian canceled an event at Utah State after a credible assassination threat because the school’s response was that Utah allows guns on college campuses.

People have warned about this kind of violence for years. But they weren’t the people the powers at be wanted to protect.

This is the line that Dems need to push. It can't be simply. "Political violence is bad" it MUST be "Political violence is bad and Trump and his ilk are responsible for creating conditions ripe for political violence"
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) on the shooting of Charlie Kirk:

"Political violence, unfortunately, has ramped up in this country ... I think there are people who are fomenting it in this country. I think the president's rhetoric often foments it."
