This was a hideously long week, but on Tuesday I took my kid to see a band and eat at a ramen place as an early Christmas present, and at dinner we were seated next to this table of like eight guys.

Thickest Chicago accents I've ever heard in real life. Loud as hell. Couldn't help but overhear.

Never forget that when conservatives couldn't win in a democracy they didn't abandon conservatism; they abandoned democracy.
Bush v. Gore was an unambitious declaration of war by Republicans against democracy and the rule of law. Republicans made clear they didn't view those principles merely as malleable concepts they could cynically bend; no, they see those principles as fundamentally incompatible with conservatism.
As one of those Democratic attorneys who was camped out in West Palm Beach - taking depositions from inconsolable grandmas swearing they hadn’t voted for Buchanan, I still have trauma. 🥺

Oh by the way also Trump lost one in the House today - 20 Republicans voted with the Dems to pass a bill to restore federal worker union rights Trump tried to remove with an exec order. Came to the House floor via a discharge petition.
Trump did a lot of losing today.

This is the Tufts PhD student who seized by masked agents on the street and jailed for two months because she wrote an op-ed calling for the school to divest from Israel.
BREAKING: A federal judge ordered the government to restore Rümeysa Öztürk's SEVIS student record after it was wrongfully terminated in retaliation for exercising her freedom of speech.

This allows her to fully engage with the opportunities of her PhD program.

Americans want to be able to afford to buy a home, but private equity firms are gobbling up entire neighborhoods, pricing families out, and the GOP and Trump instead blame immigrants for this.

The real villains are the billionaires turning homes into profit machines.

This a thread about one feature of the Trump Admin's EO regarding the Smithsonian that I haven't seen much explicit discussion of. The stated purpose for reviewing Smithsonian exhibits and collections is to ensure they align with something called "Americanism." That term has a notable genealogy.
