Twin Peaks, horror, books, psychotronalia. He/him.
Today’s fave album from 2025 seems appropriate for today, as I watch the water rise over the curbs.

First up in my favorite music of 2025:

The Golden Dregs- Godspeed
Released 04/25/25

Sounding a bit like The Magnetic Fields, with some flashes of Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen. An album that’s only grown in my estimation over the last 8 months.

Feels like a good time to start sharing some of my favorite music of the year. I’ll be posting a couple albums a day for the next week.

I mostly use Bandcamp to discover new stuff, so I’ll be linking to that a lot, though I’ll probably be sharing YouTube links as well.

I know Danny Elfman got a lot of flak for his scores all sounding alike for awhile, but when the camera is gliding over a miniature landscape and those children’s voices are going ‘la la la la la’ over the score, there’s nothing better.

And Tiny Tim, who fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door
And Tiny Tim—who is NOT dead—can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Muppet Christmas Carol is the best adaptation not because it’s so accurate, but because it’s imbued with the loss and melancholy of the gang getting together for the first project since Jim Henson died.

When Kermit mourns Tiny Tim, that’s Jim he’s talking about.

In 2025 I started dipping my toe back into monthly comics. Mostly just picking up something that caught my eye.

One of them was Cul-De-Sac. It had a cool cover/art and a writer whose work I liked. And let me tell you, this book fucking rules. Hard.

#NowWatching the 1st episode of Baby Assassins Everyday. Curious to see how this will translate to a half hour, televised format. I expect the bloody carnage to be toned down a bit, but otherwise I’m confident this should be good.

Thanks again to @busiris.bsky.social for tipping me off to this.

Still on the opening task of this new Taskmaster Champion of Champions, and I’m crying laughing. Everyone seems to have come to play this time.

This was fun. The perpetually deepening friendship between Chisato & Mahiro continues to yield great results, carrying us through some of the more loosely plotted segments.

But also; this film has a handful of KILLER action scenes. It’s like a pair of Kevin Smith characters in a John Wick world.
Starting Christmas week with a new-to-me holiday* movie!

#NowWatching Baby Assassins: Nice Days. The first two films were fun mixes of slacker humor and brutal violence. Excited to see what these two are up to this time.

*in the European sense of the word.

You get to bring back ONE VIDEO GAME IP for a new iteration, what are you choosing?

Bushido Blade

Two games for PlayStation. Two games of brutal, realistic, quick, one-hit-kill combat. I need this on modern hardware.

Like most, I first saw James Ransone on The Wire, & Generation Kill. I loved him on those shows, and was always happy to see him in something, from Sinister to Tangerine to It. A reliably twitchy and fun character actor. Capable of playing it funny, or tragically sad, sometimes at the same time.

I haven’t spoken to my mother in 5 years now, and my sister just sent me a humorous video about kids who go no-contact with their parents, and now I’ll be wondering about that for awhile…

I’m about 5 weeks post op, and wore my binders out to the point of the elasticity was giving up the ghost.

I hate what’s happening in this sorry excuse of a “free” nation. Absolutely inexcusable decisions being made.

I’m, just so tired.
In addition to this administration trying to kill kids, and they're also coming for our binders? OUR BINDERS.

Of all the sins of AI, this is an unexpected and deeply annoying one
Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

Time for another midday #Horrorsky rewatch.

#NowWatching Stuart Gordon’s Dagon. Based partially on the Lovecraft story of the same name, but melded with The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

Haven’t seen this in years, but I always enjoyed in, in spite of some major budgetary restrictions.

Went down to Little Tokyo to pick up some snacks and treats for stocking stuffers. As always, I had to drop by and say hi to the church from Prince of Darkness.

They threw up a bunch of apartment buildings since the last time I was there, which was probably last year.
