I can't stop thinking about the purported drug smugglers being murdered by the US military. The punishment for drug offenses isn't the death penalty. This is just bloodlust and men in suits playing with lives they don't care about. It's truly grotesque and gravely compromises this country.

We are not at war with Venezuela, yet. The boats are civilian craft. The U.S. criminal code does not maintain a death penalty for drug smuggling. Due process is required before conviction or sentence.

I was a lifelong Republican until 2016 and I’m an unapologetic capitalist. But above those labels, I believe in civil liberties, equal justice and the rule of law. I am really excited to see a repudiation of the authoritarianism that now grips my former party.
