This article is so good at explaining something complicated that I'm quoteposting it so I can pin it.
this @adambonica.bsky.social piece deserves to be read beside the yeoman work that @donmoyn.bsky.social and @pamherd.bsky.social have been doing. The dismantling of administrative expertise is one of those stories that is so big that pro journalists with beats find it hard to focus on or explain .
How to Dismantle a Democracy, One Job Posting at a Time
OPM’s new hiring memo imports the authoritarian playbook—quietly, bureaucratically, and by design.

Rick Steves steps in to save Seattle-area hygiene center serving homeless residents. "If we don't have [$2.25 million] for a whole county to give homeless people a shower and a place to get out of the rain and a place to wash their clothes, what kind of society are we?" www.npr.org/2025/12/21/n...
Rick Steves steps in to save Seattle-area hygiene center serving homeless residents
Steves purchased the property to prevent it from closing. Many homeless people had come to depend on the Lynnwood Hygiene Center, which had operated rent-free on the property since 2020.

Minneapolis has FIFTY YEARS of inclusive laws protecting trans people, allowing them to self-identify, and ZERO cases of trans people attacking women in the bathroom. ZERO. Over FIFTY YEARS.
The narrative is that trans people will harm and harass people in the bathroom, but it almost always is actually like this case where the aggressor is the transphobe confronting the trans person. It's ridiculous. They want to kick "undesirables" out from public life entirely, if they could.

Oceangate happened because silicon valley jags have convinced themselves they're immune to consequences, and it turns out the bottom of the ocean is immune to lobby groups and does not take bribes.

This is why the idea of a Mars colony should terrify you.

Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.

In 1931 in Kiel, Germany, Rachel Posner, the wife of a rabbi, took this picture.

On the back of the photograph she wrote:

“‘Death to Judah,’ so the flag says.

‘Judah lives forever,’ so the light answers.”

The light will continue to answer the darkness. Happy Hanukkah.
