Same. I mean a lot of people are actually like 16 years old lol and we need to remember this! That condescension is a good way to scare people away from the truth.
I used to be like this and had to unlearn this way of thinking and relearn to understand not everyone is aware of what I’m aware of or know what I know.
There’s this kind of holier-than-thou tendency to dismiss people’s observations of the world coming apart at the seams by referencing past evils and derisively sneering, “Where have you been?/You’re just now noticing this?” that I think is almost never constructive or helpful.

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same

rare to see an american politician speak in these terms and it rocks
“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”

crazy that they made a water fireplace
Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. I took this because it was soothing and wonderfully bloopy and I wanted to listen to it for hours. You are all welcome to enjoy it, too. Let your brain settle here and rest for a moment.

'Don't fight back that will give Trump an excuse to escalate!' is the most asinine dogshit take on here- the man *instigated an insurrection* because people *voted him out*

No level of law abiding pacifism will placate him- he registers it as weakness, and an invitation to multiply his abuses

Pastor: I said to this ICE agent, 'Take me, stop harassing her.' The agent got in my face, pointed a gun at me, and said, 'Are you afraid now?' To which I said, 'I am not afraid.'

me, straining against my straitjacket: HE’S REALIZING IN REAL TIME THAT THE VIDEO HIS AIDES ALREADY SHOWED HIM WAS AN AI FAKE
This is quite a sequence:

—Trump asks aide for video of ICE shooting to convince NYT interviewers that driver tried to "run over" agent

—They watch together

—Interviewers note it shows nothing of the sort

—Trump says "well . . . it's a terrible scene"

whole lot of ICE pricks just saw that they can murder someone and not only not be arrested, but the president will call them a hero who saved the day. they even have a blueprint for how to shoot people they want to. extremely bad precedent

The scale of the protests in Iran are absolutely unbelievable. Hard to quantify, but I've seen some speculation that this uprising is more significant than the 2023 protests (themselves the largest challenge to the regime since it came into power in '79.)

The AI-generated podcast stuff truly confounds me. I guess there are people who enjoy asking Alexa or Siri things and expand that into: What if my robot friend could tell me a story about the news?

These people have wrinkle-free brains.
Storied newspaper chain McClatchy recently shuttered its Washington bureau and laid off staff. Now its told union leaders it wants to publish AI-generated stories without human review and create AI impersonations of reporters for podcasts.

McClatchy’s Machine Mindset
A recent meeting with McClatchy executives left union leaders stunned and deeply alarmed about how the company wishes to implement A.I. in the newsroom, Status has learned.
