Miami also looking for a "hitting/catching coach" with duties reading like what would be considered a MiLB coordinator position in the Texas org. I guess these things happen, but kind of weird from my limited viewpoint, as the Rangers (per custom) announced their complete staff last week.

Of course Manfred and The Slave Catchers love the idea of creating a system that takes leverage and bargaining power away from the players, and forces them to take whatever's on offer.
Earlier this week MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred floated the idea of a free agent signing deadline. Yesterday top Red Sox officials expressed support for the concept.

"Anything we can do to create even more interest and excitement around MLB, the better."

I value hitters with positive defensive upside more highly for offensive production too (all things being equal) because the good defenders will get a lot more time in a starting spot to figure it out. If the defense sucks and he isn't hitting, you can't play him.

Caissie just needs playing time.
I like Owen Caissie, and fwiw this now makes him someone I’m holding in leagues rather than trying to move off him. Maybe he gets the Stowers experience

Edward Cabrera is definitely worth Owen Caissie if he stays healthy... but using the word "extreme" to describe his health risk is actually understating it.

I don't like giving up relatively safe bats w/ upside after a disappointing cup of coffee for middle-aged pitchers with arm injury history.
The #Cubs are acquiring RHP Edward Cabrera from the #Marlins in exchange for #1 prospect, OF Owen Caissie, INF Cristian Hernandez (#11), and 3B Edgardo De Leon

What do we think Cubs fans? Was this a good trade?

Actually a 4-way trade:

Cubs get: Edward Cabrera
Bears get: Myles Garrett before Saturday
Marlins get: Owen Caissie, a 1st-round NFL draft pick
Browns get: Matt Shaw
Cubs are finalizing a deal to acquire RHP Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins, per an industry source.

Draft Andy Pages? Idk, savant says he over performed.

But savant doesn’t include spray angle.

I stumbled onto @blandalytics version, which does.

Wrote about how including spray angle helps contextualize pull fly hitters like Paredes, Perdomo & Pages—

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have shown Alzheimer’s disease can be REVERSED- not just prevented. Using a potent neuroprotective compound called P7C3-A20, they found RESTORING balance to a central cellular energy molecule (NAD+) not only PREVENTED disease features but REVERSED them, EVEN at late stages.

You can put player IDs in the URL in order to view Leaderboard tables for individual players. E.g. the +Stats like OBP+ which aren't available in the player pages.
There isn't a way on the player pages yet. You would have to do something like this on the leaderboards: www.fangraphs.com/leaders/majo...

Jonathon Long and Moises Ballesteros were incredibly similar hitters during their time in Iowa this past year. But I’ve highlighted some things that stand out as different between the two, most importantly: Long is FAR more patient, on pitches both IN and OUT of the zone

Bradford, once again getting a big story ahead of the sanctioned and affiliated media (b/c he's doing the hard work).

In this one, it sounds as if MLB wants to be the brand, rather than 30 different brands. MLB wants to be McDonalds. All the franchises are the same. Same food. Same expected 1/
MLB's tech regulation plans give itself full control over who can do business with baseball.
And I learned an AI scouting firm — founded by the uncle of an exec in Rob Manfred’s inner circle — may win a bid.
Team sources and antitrust experts told me it creates a conflict of interest.

NEW from me:
MLB Teams Fear League Will Pick Winners and Losers in Tech
The league is taking control of the choosing of tech partners, rather than leaving it up to teams; one firm under consideration was founded by a top MLB exec’s uncle.

Evidently the owner of one major league team can buy the affiliates of another club he does not own, and somehow there is no legally-problematic conflict of interest here.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Akron RubberDucks have been sold to Prospector Baseball Group.

Both Minor League clubs were previously owned by Ken Babby, who now serves as CEO of the Tampa Bay Rays under the MLB team's new ownership group.

In a proportional direct democratic system, you could narrow the applicants for the bench on any given case to those who have submitted an approach piece (detailing their current feelings in the case and their approach towards adjudicating the issue) and had it roundly supported by the citizenry.
I'm going to keep saying this in my effort to speak it into reality: Supreme Court should have at least 100 Justices with rotating panels (and maybe an en banc option). No single Justice should have so much power and they shouldn't be names everyone knows.
A court with a normal-ish conservative majority would have been tolerable. I'm not eager for court packing, impeaching justices, and other such options. But this court sticking around post-Trump is untenable. They've already torched their own legitimacy, the only question is what do we do about it.

Serious question: What is the historical precedent of record surrounding the Good Behaviour Clause for justices continuing to serve? Have the criteria ever been firmly established? If not, can we just make some up? Either way, fire the GOP justices, then let their appeal go to the liberal justices.

Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.

One side of this debate (Bonica) uses rigorous models & data to come to empirically-based conclusions, & interprets them in an unbiased manner.

The other uses the term "ninety seven bajillion" and badmouths their opposition w/o listing any supporting evidence.

You're not an expert or a scientist.
