Experimentation is good for campaigns broadly! If this strategy fails, it costs very few people anything, and if it succeeds it illuminates another tool we can use to mobilize support. And i think the ideas here are actually fairly sound, enough so that its at least worth trying.
Turning campaigns into mutual aid hubs isn’t good for campaigns or mutual aid! Your campaign manager should be entirely too busy to schlep around 5600 tampons!

And Nicolae Ceauceacu ...

...who DID die!
My father in law has done his traditional Christmas Day Facebook post to remind us of the true meaning of the day:

Reminding us of the greatest Christmas of all, December 25th, 1989, when they shot that bastard Ceaușescu

very grimly ironic that our government run by podcasters sucks at true crime
Gotta say it's mindblowing to me that the Brown shooter is still at large and they don't even seem to have identified who they're looking for.

You’ve lost the plot completely when you find yourself having any other reaction than “this is fucking awful” to a terrorist attack.

No, I don’t give a shit if certain Bad Victims were Zionists, there’s no world in which somebody opening fire on a beach isn’t just murderous terrorism. Fuck off!

1: 'Where's Dad?'
2 (with ineffable weariness): 'In the cheese aisle, having the time of his life.'

Not in New York, so this isn't my race but I think if Democrats take one thing from Mamdani, it probably ought to be what Lander here seems to have done: you answer the cynicism and hypocrisy of the moment with sincerity, not knowing-cleverness.

'Sincere Dork' is a good political brand.
I’m running for Congress because we need leaders who will fight, not fold. I recognize this moment, and I’m ready to meet it. #FightDontFold #LanderForNYC #LanderForCongress

Holy fucking shit. Under no circumstances do you have to give Trump credit on the fucking gestapo. Who the fuck is this for?
Jeffries: "The border is secure. That's a good thing. It happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it, of course he'll get credit for that. In terms of making sure that we actually deal with the issues that matter, including on immigration, there's a lot that's left to be desired."

if you don't want Senator Platner you need a candidate besides Mills
Graham Platner is leading Gov. Janet Mills by 20 points in the Maine Senate Democratic primary, per a new poll.

That might surprise pundits in DC, but it captures the vibe in Maine, where you might think he was the only candidate running. @zeteo.com

Counterpoint: if said leader is deeply incompetent and ineffective, it would actually be a very Good Idea to remove them and replace them with someone better. I do get why AOC isn't backing it though, bc it wouldn't do to burn bridges before she makes her own bid against Schumer in 2028.
ousting the leader of your party in a chamber of congress in a midterm election when the opposing party controls the entire government

through a primary from the party’s base

is actually a pretty logical “bad idea” whether it makes you feel good or not
Big Bird would be more effective than Hakeem Jeffries.

Why on earth is AOC not on board?

like, why would any democrat compromise with the GOP right now? you have a once in a millennium upper hand. every member of trump’s admin who opened that file is complicit. go after them. open investigations. have hearings. say it on the news every night. do something other than roll over for once.

This point absolutely correct and I will add that Mamdani demonstrates that an insurgency, even one with real moral clarity and anger at the status quo, can still be cheerful and inviting.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
