The T***p regime is a clear threat to Canada and Canadians. We’re ready to defend ourselves against those threats. It’s baffling and sad that a neighbour has decided to breach the trust built up for over a century. #ElbowsUp

[screaming at the top of my lungs, once again] the fundamental technology of humanity is care
We didn't survive and thrive as a species because we had warriors or hunters - pretty much every omnivore can manage that.

We did so because we developed Grandmothers, and domesticated Dogs.

Community is what defines us as a species, and every "self-reliant" libertarian shitweasel be damned.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Even if they never actually file the lawsuit, even if its just Trump-like bluster intended to send a message, what message is it sending? Why would any musical company or artist risk contracting with a bunch of vengeful lunatics?

The problem is North Americans have been simultaneously educated and reaffirmed from personal manipulated experience that: 1) climate change is dangerous and getting worse, 2) their children are only safe in SUVs+, 3) that EVs & heat pumps are very expensive. None of this was necessarily true.

This too.

“I object to what you’ve done and decline to perform for you” is free speech and free association.

The govt threatening legal action over that is compelled speech.

Fits the warped “I can say whatever I want, you have to listen, and you can’t say anything back” conception of free speech.

I just taught my lecture course on mid-20th c US history, which starts with Harding and concludes with Nixon.

For the first time, I had to pause and stress that those scandals were actually shocking at the time and, what’s more, that Americans actually demanded people be held accountable.
All of the money that changed hands in the Teapot Dome scandal totaled less than $10 million after adjusting for inflation, and it was considered so corrupt we still teach it in high school government classes a century later.
Corruption so pungent, it wafts right off the page:

Lobbyists who do pardon deals “say their going rate is $1 million. Pardon-seekers have offered some lobbyists close to the president success fees of as much as $6 million if they can close the deal.”

How many Muslims a country has or how it treats Muslims has nothing to do with nuclear responsibility.

Nuclear armed countries with higher percentages of Muslims than the UK or France: Russia, India, Israel, and esp Pakistan.

Vance is anti-Europe because he thinks it's not white enough. That's it.
JD Vance argues that having Muslims makes the UK and France too dangerous to have nukes, which will be great for US relations with India and Pakistan.

So if you’re keeping track, the Trump administration’s position on nuclear arms is:
North Korea: cool, nonthreatening
France and UK: bad, dangerous
A case where the quote is even worse in context than out of context. JD is scaremongering about “Islamists” winning elections in the UK/France and then somehow militarily threatening the US. Saying we should hold Europeans and Africans to different moral standards but anti-wokely.

"Killing and damaging things without achieving anything lasting" is the hallmark of the Trump regime.
In 2025, the US launched strikes on the Houthis in Yemen, al-Shabab in Somalia, ISIS in Syria, alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, plus Iran’s nuclear program. Now some into Nigeria.

All killed people and damaged things, but none appear to have achieved anything lasting.
Opinion | The logic isn't apparent in Trump's strikes in Nigeria

Per Craig Ferguson: When you're about to say something, ask yourself

1. Does this need to be said

2. Does this need to be said by me

3. Does this need to be said by me right now

It's amazing how asking these will get keep you out of trouble (that is, if you actually have sense to begin with)
I’ve been trying very hard to not be an asshole as I get older. Often, that just means keeping my mouth shut and nodding along.

The best example of this -- the same Congress that added "under God" to the Pledge in 1954 without much opposition at all also shot down the perennial calls to pass a constitutional amendment acknowledging the supremacy of Jesus Christ as our lord and savior.

They saw a bright line between the two.
