Sounds like a home from home?

Here's the other side of the story you won't read in today's headlines about the cost of meeting net zero targets. The reality is the IEA report is deeply flawed and based on some pretty blatant cherry-picking of clean tech costs. www.businessgreen.com/news/4524063...
'Cherry picking data': Government and analysts hit back at latest Tufton Street attacks on net zero

The utterly shameless & widely covered "report" out today, claiming net zero will "cost" £9tn is based on:

* Assuming free fossil-fuel energy, free petrol cars, free gas boilers, free gas power plants etc

AND

* Including climate damages in the "cost" of net zero

I kid you not, it is that stupid
🧵A political/media guide to the "truth" about net-zero

1) Add up costs to install & run a net-zero energy system
2) Pretend fossil-fuelled alternatives wld be free
3) Do say "eco zealots are bankrupting us"
4) Don't say "free cars if we scrap net-zero" cos it sounds ridiculous
5) That's it!

Reform is not the future of British politics.

No, no.

It’s the afterlife.

(Borrowed from @bearlypolitics.co.uk of course)

David Jones
Sir Jake Berry
Graham Simpson
Marco Longhi

Last year saw:

The lowest homicide rate since records began

The fewest homicides of those aged under 25 this century

Not sure what I'd set the limit at, probably a few grand, what I am sure about is, donation limits were to be introduced that the electoral commission should be given funding and power to track down those flouting the rules and that the recipient parties should be punished and forfeit said funds.
A couple of things I find interesting here:

1. Almost half with an opinion want a limit of £500/yr or less. That's really low

2. Opinion moving against donations but the principal change in the extreme categories (nothing at all: 15% to 26% in 5 yrs / no limit: 21% to 14% across the same surveys).
The public wants big money out of politics.

YouGov’s latest polling shows dwindling support for the status quo - where businesses, trade unions and individuals can donate as much as they like - and strong backing for capping political donations.

Christabel IMO is usually right.
It's worth remembering that Trump is not omnipotent. He is not a Roman Emperor who can execute people who disagree with him and push on regardless. The saner Republicans do have the power to curb his worst excesses - and I'd have thought with polls like this, they now have an incentive to do so.
January 9, 2026 at 11:25 AM
Hope it actually happens, Trump is so stupid he'll actually think that 'owning' the gong has real meaning, but who cares, it's only a piece of metal.
people will say “he will not literally post on truth social that this lady runs venezuela now after she gives him the physical nobel peace prize” and I am here to tell you that is absolutely in play and is in fact a likely outcome
I thought Trump would never get the Nobel Peace Prize. He's about to prove me wrong!
January 9, 2026 at 9:12 AM
My money is on the shooter never facing justice, well not whilst Trump's fat arse sits in the white house.
"It would be hard, but not impossible, to try the ICE shooter on state charges and obtain a state-law conviction that Trump couldn’t wipe away. It might seem like the longest shot in the world, but honestly, we have to try something, anything, to stop this — not just in Minnesota, but everywhere."
Renee Good's killer can and must be prosecuted
Doing nothing is not an option.

Our treasurer @mwheelermp.bsky.social has written about the new right to a guaranteed hours contract that's in the Employment Rights Act, and how we get the implementation of this right 👇
“The employment rights bill and the New Deal for Working People are some of the Labour government’s most popular policies”

Labour’s plan to offer guaranteed hours contracts to all workers will be transformational - only if we get it right.

Very Interesting
Always look under the bonnet of polls before reaching sweeping conclusions.

Even in this poll, left bloc voters are (a) less likely to say they'll vote(b) more likely to say don't know. Ergo more are taken out the sample and/or re-modelled.

Many left bloc voters aren't switching, they are hiding !

Another great Labour achievement ❤️
The new right to a guaranteed hours contract in the Employment Rights Act could be transformational, finally ending exploitative short and zero-hour contracts.

But we must make sure we get the detail right and ensure all workers benefit.

Could this killing be what starts a massive violent protest across America?

An ordinary (white) middle class mother!
Even fox news will struggle to sell the "domestic terrorist" line to their viewers.
This is Renee Good.

She was a mother of a six-year-old child.

She was an American citizen.

She described herself as a “poet and writer and wife and mom and shitty guitar strummer from Colorado.”

And she was gunned down in cold blood and broad daylight by Trump’s ICE agents.
