Yet again conservatives are melting down about the foreseeable consequences of conservative policies. We’re in a death spiral now where they tank the economy and cut welfare, then fearmonger about the resulting increase in visible poverty and addiction.

I’ll forever be grateful for my liberal arts education. I wish everyone had the chance to learn and explore the way I did. Education is (should be) about more than employability, but LA is good for that too!!
ironically the education for its own sake, Enlightenment-coded, Great Books-ass liberal arts degree is one of the better employment bets you can make. learn how to read, write, think critically, develop curiosity so you can pick up new skills quickly, etc etc
"Among college graduates ages 22 to 27, computer science and computer engineering majors are facing some of the highest unemployment rates, 6.1% and 7.5% respectively ...

That is more than double the unemployment rate among recent biology and art history graduates, which is just 3%"

Hard to understand how violent this is. There were people here that were wiped out aggressively and this celebrates that.

If there is daylight between this administration’s propaganda and that of the third reich, you would not be able to slide a greeting card through it.
The official DHS account is now tweeting about “your homeland’s heritage”

Administrative burdens and an enhanced police state go hand in hand to push the poor into deeper poverty while the rich get infinitely richer. Poverty is not an accident, and this bill widens the gap *on purpose*. open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...

“Who’s going to do all our labor?” is not the reason you should have a problem with ICE and deportations.

Being a laborer is not the extent of worth of Mexicans living in America

People have the right to just BE. It doesn’t have to benefit you

If the positions “everyone should have healthcare, education, food, and housing” and “we should kill democracy and instead be ruled by billionaires within a violently enforced racial hierarchy” are equally extreme for you then neither centrist nor “moderate” are words I would use to describe you.

Also, universities aren't 'dependent' on federal funds. It's a partnership between the government and universities to fund pathbreaking health, scientific, engineering, and countless other innovations, and just as importantly, to train the scientific workforce. We're all sunk if this collapses.
Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants

the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever

they aren’t going into universities’ endowments

they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
There is a PR narrative quickly emerging about “entitlement” of elite universities, as if this $ is some sort of subsidy

Harvard & others must counter this quickly

The $ doesn’t flow into Harvard’s coffers - this is grant money, most of which goes to research the govt has agreed has social value

You may be fearing your 401k is no longer enough for you to retire. But with all the cuts to NIH and Medicare you also won't live as long. So the policies are integrated.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

None of these pieces, none of them, say explicitly what perspectives are left out. Why is that? Why is no one specific?
