The thing to understand is that there is a particular contingent within Labour who assess their own performance not based on the support they get from the right (which will always be, basically, none) but on how much they repulse the left. So they turn into Reform, without actually getting votes.

I really disliked this piece on trans passports by Amy Harmon of the New York Times. It is, admittedly, an "old" New York Times story, one that makes a reasonable effort to cloak its biases and present itself as seeking both sides of a story ("new" NYT stories don't bother).

New from me: The same tactics marketers use to get you to find their toothbrushes or photography business on Google were also used by Jeffrey Epstein & co. to try to launder his reputation online. SEO to try to cover up the most infamous pedophile ring.

Secretly they don't want her to go ahead with it because that will stop them winning the next election, somehow

We're all being useful idiots by opposing her, and should shut up 🧐

Some quick thoughts to be elaborated on later but the payment processor flex on one of us is a flex on all of us - they're an underpinning of the right wing anti-nation model. The techlords.

They show not only a complete disregard for people's lives, or basic humanity, but also reality. 1/

My biggest fear is, legitimately, that this could end with me just losing my bank accounts. Plausible reality. Wish journalists and leftist content creators actually locked in on this issue
I have seen this happen Irl and God is it painfull, alot of people don't realize just how bad targeted debanking is especially psychologically.

The idea to that you are on a list you can't contest is soul crushing.

This is beyond bullshit this is cruel.

A symbolic denounement to the British empire: after centuries of plunder produced little more than a mostly-calm island with modest social benefits, the state is left to plunder at home from the pockets of asylum seekers, extracting a last morsel of flesh from those with nothing while fleeing hell.
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

When released she worked as a whistleblower to expose these kinds of atrocities.

Forced sterilization & hysterectomies. Medical neglect.

ICE grabbed her again in March and she’s been detained ever since.

Aside from anything else, this is bad custodianship of the neoliberal order. The right wing party is allowed to be in perpetual revolution, declaring successive Year Zeroes; the centrist one is not. It’s supposed to consolidate and lock in the gains made by the right wing party.

If I was being constructive, I’d say what’s urgently needed now is a way to help the Sensible Moderates to climb down off their high horse with at least the appearance of dignity. I don’t think that’s possible, given how horrifically they have behaved and how toxic politics became as a result. But.
This is a massive problem, because aggro centrists are most of parliament and the press, and they aren’t ever going to admit that it’s them who have disastrously fucked it, and they certainly are not going to fire each other or themselves.

Jewellery is traditionally the easiest way to carry wealth. It's small, it can be worn or hidden, it can be made of solid gold. You could turn everything you had into a necklace to carry.

Imagine many refugees do this, or it represents the only part of their own wealth they could save.

Refugees.
