Yeah, it's not bad at all. I was mostly curious about the Enum.HasFlag() method, which I just learned about from Nick Chapas' tip series. It's ... not great.

two big influences on my young comics art brain. from Comics Scene magazine they commissioned 4 top inkers to ink the same drawing to show what an inker does. a page from How to Draw Comics the Marvel way by John buscema

This from @realgdt.bsky.social talking about 'Frankenstein' is so good.

Regardless, the .NET way:
_P.HasFlag(flag)
... is unbelievably bloated in the assembly. It works like the first example, according to the documentation.
xot.bsky.social
For context, this:
(_P & flag) == flag
... is True when ALL bits in "flag" are set, and:
(_P & flag) != 0
... is True when ANY bits in "flag" are set, and may be infinitesimally faster. Either will work in my current code, but if I ever test multiple bits, the difference is important.

I'm certain weighing the merits of:
cmp eax,dword ptr [rbp+58h]
sete al
... versus:
test eax,eax
setne al
... was not in any way a colossal waste of time.

So, if you're thinking about backing Blanksword but are unsure, there's a demo you can check out right now, which might help you decide. 😊👍

Some inappropriately creepy golf content - Sente Mini Golf (1986) has DIP switches that add photos of missing children to the attract mode (and to enable a "LOCATED" message per kid). These profiles were replaced with new ones in updated ROMs.

Modern operators seem to leave them on, a lot. 😨
A Reddit post from r/creepygaming by user SuperCamouflageShark - I saw these missing child reports on the attract mode of a Sente Mini-Golf arcade machine recently.

The photo is of a Sente Mini Golf machine, displaying black-and-white photographs of missing children: Tahj Allen Merriman, and Steven Phillip Curtis. Their profiles are filled out in red text. Another photograph of a different Sente Mini Golf machine, displaying the same photos of missing children. Sente Mini Golf running under MAME, with the DIP Switches menu showing. DIP switches 3, 4, and 5 configure whether the missing children are displayed in the attract mode, with switches 4 and 5 showing or hiding a "LOCATED" stamp over the respective kid's photo. Screenshot of Sente Mini Golf running under MAME; this screen shows two different missing children: Malinda Marie Smith and April Rose Yates. For the sake of demonstration I have enabled the "LOCATED" flag on the kid on the right. (DISCLAIMER: I do not have any information on whether April was located or not. This is strictly a demonstration and is not intended as documentation of a real event.)

Kevin has been on a tear with his blog lately, working through every single Atari 2600 game on chronological order. He's making me care about Atari games!

The blog continues its updates, as Bob Whitehead's Boxing gets its time in the spotlight. Unassuming but a blast to play, particularly if you're using the original joysticks and want to experience actual exhaustion in your boxing match. www.atariarchive.org/blog/boxing-...

I didn't know about this Signal For Help hand gesture until today. I'm quite sure that a lot of other people don't know it either (as demonstrated in this video). If you just learned it now too then it was worth posting.

Rebecca Heineman is probably best known for coding 3DO Doom from zero in 10 weeks after being told it just needed "polish" - the licensee didn't understand what porting involved.

Since hearing that story, she's someone I've looked up to a lot. Now, she's got a different struggle...

When @aceottorney.bsky.social first told me about this I said "this could change people's lives and stop developers from getting exploited" and having seen the final resource, I think I was not wrong. I'd call it a must-bookmark for indie devs.

been using chromatic aberration as an alternative to screenshakes by just offsetting the RGB values towards a set direction and distance which just gets lerped back.

feel like it achieves a similar feeling of intensity without taking away visiblity too much?

thoughts? #gamedev
