we need to stop treating billionaires like people. they chose to forsake their humanity to become entities and as such we need to stop assuming they have any valid feelings or a heart

the Helldivers 2 fiasco & the fact even the director of the game is going wtf at Sony demanding a PSN account to let you play it is just exhibit #657234 of why letting bean counters run creative industries to improve bottom lines is the corporate version of trying to trim your pubes with a chainsaw

Current estimates say that every prompt you give a generative "AI" system— not each session, every PROMPT— is like pouring a 16 oz bottle of water onto the ground.

This is a fact that goes somewhere in every talk i give, now, & i always see audience members looking it up… and then looking horrified
Annoyed by articles that go into great detail about what companies say they're doing with so-called "A.I." but do not ask what companies are doing about the technology's ecological impact.

we’re gonna miss the H5N1 jump from bovine to human cause our industrialized ag system requires cheap immigrant labor afraid of our awful immigration enforcement system
So much of the farming industry relies on undocumented labor that it's going to be really difficult to track people down. Undocumented laborers in the USA are often highly leery of government officials knocking on the door, understandably so. Immigration reform is crucial to public health
May 3, 2024 Public Health: To prevent disease transmission, #contacttracing should be conducted.

My 2 Cents: This should be done now. I cannot accept that with so many infected cows on so many different farms that there has been only one documented case of #H5N1Human

Overpolicing in US cities cannot be discussed without discussing gentrification, because overpolicing is being funded to kill & incarcerate Black people to remove them from the city for white people to move in.

considering that she’s about to unleash riot cops on a bunch of students for the second time in two weeks, I feel compelled to share my mother’s sobriquet for Minouche Shafik, which was, “she’s not even a real scholar, she just spent her career licking the ass of capital at the world bank”
my mom just said the crudest thing I’ve ever heard her say about the president of Columbia

This week I've written about The Celebration (1998). Warning: the film includes mention of some potentially traumatic material. This thread will not mention it, but see the full content warning in the essay (link below) for details.

Forgot to post this here yesterday. I'm starting to get back into writing and thinking critically about the media I consume. So, I'm going to be writing weekly blogs about the stuff I'm watching/readting/etc.

it’s even worse because a lot of these incredibly talented folks will simply leave the gaming industry and its horrible whims entirely, and not only will we lose out on what they were going to produce over the next few years we’ll lose out on everything beyond that

the ripple effects are wide
I don't think a lot of gaming fans realize just how many future releases have evaporated into thin air over the last 18 months

Projects canceled, teams scattered to the wind... so many of the experiences that were going to surprise and delight over the next 2-5 years just gone
