A sign, not far from the Somerset village of Parbrook, where I used to live, saying 'TEAPOT LANE (WORMS LANE)'. Not being a person anaesthetised to the palimpsest of small histories that can be found everywhere we go, I inevitably became intrigued by this - especially the addition of the brackets. I soon discovered, via an amateur historian in the village called Allen Cotton, that the lane’s name had been officially changed from Worms Lane to Teapot Lane a few years ago because locals had been calling it that for decades in reference to two spinsters who’d lived together in one of the poorhouses there in the early 1900s and had a reputation for collecting used tea leaves from their neighbours and “always had a warm teapot on the hob”. Glaring questions remained surrounding the worms, however. What had they been like? Were their descendants still here, doing their bit for the local ecosystem? Why had the public turned against them? I realise there's far too much stuff to read from screens in the world generally, so I took the time to read it out and record an audio version, too.

I am sure someone else has already come to this realization, but Gandalf is basically a neighborhood cat.

He has different names for everyone who knows him, disappears for worrisomely long periods, shows up whenever he wants, and no one knows where he comes from, but everyone loves him.

Birds are flying toward a castle with several red-roofed towers built at the top of an enormous oak tree. The sky is blue and there are wispy clouds. The tree is full of orange leaves and there are red and yellow trees in the distance. The image is bordered by a red, yellow, and blue, uh... border, with little stars and patterns. On the Queen's seventh birthday, brids from across the warbler realm were flocking to Oakcliffe Castle to take part in the festivities. (The first letter is illustrated in its own cute little box, technically termed an historiated initial, like in medieval manuscripts)
