For Trump, Nothing Was Off Limits During the Shutdown

President Trump pressured Democrats by taking punishing actions no previous administration ever took during a shutdown.

The eight senators who voted with the Republicans appear to have lost any hope Trump would negotiate and, in that absence, decided they had to relieve the pain of the shutdown.

Senate Democrats have already signaled that they will fold before Trump does. They have given away the reputation required for fighting.

“When the eight Democrats who voted in favor (a number that includes Sen. Angus King of Maine)…came out to explain their decision, their defenses were less than inspiring. In fact, they will likely serve only to increase the anger and contempt Democrats feel for their party’s establishment.”

I'm not sure why there would be another shutdown at end of January. Some Dems have learned they are unlikely to get anything out of it & others have learned that their members will cave in the end (which means the same outcome).

This will come back to bite the Dems.
Democrats were overwhelmingly united on their shutdown demands.

Americans understood that Trump and Republicans were to blame.

Voters made it known last Tuesday that they'll elect leaders who stand up to Trump.

Democrats held the cards — and folded for no reason.

The Democrats in the Senate who handed the GOP a lifeline with the shutdown cave in stopped a massive Trump cave in that would have happened sooner rather than later. With the busiest flying season approaching, Trump desperately needed a deal. Sadly Democrats gave it to him.
