Honestly I doubt that even Shapiro will go without attacks from some pro-Israel blocs.

i love how transhuman space splits up Canada into Quebec, West Canada and East Canada, all of which are in different trading blocs

there seems to be a weird pop theory of the cold war that essentially sees the blocs as entirely involuntary. i can actually imagine where that comes from (you know, because in eastern europe and latin america tons of countries /were/ forced into a side involuntarily) but it is by no means universal
tankies seem to find it really really really hard to understand the idea that someone can legitimately see Moscow as the primary enemy and anyone who will help as an ally

Besides the general weird decisions, I feel like the assumption the future is mostly giant EU-style blocs that a lot of sci-fi goes for is… questionable. Plus, even the actual EU in real life isn’t really a singular coherent polity, let alone ones that haven’t actually been formed yet
i love RPG maps that make you go "how the hell would this work IRL"

Pressures on the EU both internally, from far right parties, & externally from the US fascist regime, seek to remove freedom of speech, bodily autonomy, equality & inclusion.

The EU is one of the wealthiest blocs, diverse, cohesive & civilised. This is due, in the main, to the European…

Cheese and charcuterie platters are fun, a blank canvas for me, but I had a friend who couldn't eat meat or dairy, so I made an all fruit platter. 3/

And they were right. I really can't wait for the dissertations on how/why Latinos and other non-white voting blocs boosted Trump in 2024. "The economy" is only half the story.

governed by civilisational blocs and strongmen, with the European Union recast not as an ally but as a rival political ecosystem to be undermined from within.

Trump to Europe: You’re Weak, Decaying – and I’m Coming for Your Elections
President Donald Trump just gave an interview to Politico (full transcript here if you have the stomach for it) in which he basically dropped all pretense of alliance with Europe and described Europe ...

The blocs in question often developed because one side or another showed up with a dump truck full of guns and money. This was especially true in much of Africa: take Mobutu, the Derg, and Egypt. In the 1950s, both the US and the USSR essentially competed to buy Nasser's vote!

1. Look at the Direction of Sovereignty

Illiberal / Identarian “Pan-European”

Sovereignty flows downwards into “civilization blocs” or ethnocultural tribes.

Europe is imagined as a fortress or “civilizational shield.”

The absolute funniest part of this is that grocery chain owners, realtors/landlords, and car dealership owners are probably three of the GOPs strongest voting blocs.

And if you think they absolutely aren't above raising prices every time a Democrat gets into power to help the GOP win, you're wrong.
Every one of the examples you gave were where Democrats tried to fix it, Republicans blocked them, and you rewarded Republicans for doing so.

You are literally that white person
in the jury blaming the short dress for the crime, rather than the Republican who committed it.

It's disgusting.

"Au bout du tube vert, la récompense fleurira." La dernière étape de la chasse au trésor. Quel est-il ? Peut-être la découverte de ce tunnel de verdure, poumon merveilleux dissimulé au milieu des blocs de béton. Ou être avec toi et partager ce moment, tant que nous le pouvons.

A lot of credit here to Rep Nydia Velázquez, who really pushed for a group to break down the insider blocs in Dem Party Politics after we were all so disillusioned in when we tried to move from organizing for Obama in '08 to being active in local politics and the Dems in BK didn't want us but even
Brad Lander and Antonio Reynoso making it to Congress would be a massive vindication for people who were Brooklyn party reform geeks 15 years ago. You did it @michaelcaley.bsky.social.

Our democracy is pretty much a sham and has been since the founding. Any concessions that working people or oppressed people got were hard won and they weren't won by voting. The two parties are beholden to two competing blocs of capitalists. We are largely incidental to their power plays.
