Now that's okay - we love the subjunctive.

I've just completed 7 hours examining Spoken English for Cambridge U. So I'm objectively subjunctive. The Belgian beer helps!

Shall try a boulavardier shortly (I blame @jeremymillar.bsky.social for showing off his yesterday), but not until I've finished today's Duo, which all seems to be in the subjunctive. Also admiring my #YaySwap bauble from @artefactual.bsky.social, which went up with the tree yesterday.

Please do try to write coherent sentences.

Why use a subjunctive here?

Are you wishing your cardiologist to be something?

And what, precisely, is (note use of indicative mood) your cardiologist like?

I suggest you rethink the entire post and try again.

Never was a subjunctive more hastily summoned to serve and defend...
There’s a simple reason Hegseth keeps saying things that conflict with Bradley’s testimony (ex. no radio comms): admitting the truth would expose him to command responsibility. If the survivors were incapacitated, he’s not defending a policy; he’s defending himself.

Speechless.
My book arrived and changed my plans for the day week month!!
Everything about the Alchemy Lecture series is just so beautiful but this lecture by V. Mitch McEwen blew me away and continues to do so. 🔥
Everyone needs this book / these books.

It's not the same. Inshallah is the Indicative mode, 'Allah wishes it'. Weshallah, or Oshallah in the Arabic spoken in the medieval Iberian Peninsula, is the Subjunctive mode, meaning 'may Allah provide'. Spanish 'ojalá' is always used in the same mode, subjunctive, according to its Arabic origin.

A lot of my dreams are taking place back in high school or college & last night my French professor was handing out essays for everyone to write based on a reading, & she said we had to use the subjunctive tense. I wrote the paper in great French but I was like wait I didn't use the subjunctive!

I didn’t even know English had a subjunctive until I learned about it in high school French.
Still think about my Latin professor who 5 weeks into the semester realized that the class didn’t know English grammar well enough for him to be able to explain Latin, so the class suddenly became a simultaneous English grammar & Latin class

Watch out for season 4, when the crew confront the looming menace of the Borg Subjunctive.

(I should stop this, it's getting silly.)

I’m old enough to have gotten a fair amount of grammar in English class, but I only learned verb tenses taking French and things like the subjunctive from Latin and French.

That having been said, I had to teach myself Excel (and its predecessor, VisiCalc) so there’s that.

“In due time, you’ll know everything.”
“Well maybe then it’s too late!”

Wow! The future conditional pluperfect subjunctive.
It’s thanksgiving week so I wanna see some MST3K posting, quotes, pictures, clips, gifs! Meanwhile I’m going to go to a department meeting and try to pay attention while I wonder if there’s beer on the sun

Additional benefit: by being exposed to correct printed language, children are in a better position to learn proper English in all its manifestations - including the subjunctive, which prescribes that what is ACTUALLY correct is:

"It is imperative that children be [note!] read to"

my first semester latin textbook noted with a certain melancholy that "the subjunctive mode is moribund in english," but perhaps the need to navigate around social media blocks has revived it
I never threaten to light people on🔥. I just point out that I wouldn’t piss on them if they were. The niceties are observed.
