“Democrats think 45% of Republicans support partisan murder, 20 times larger than what data show. Similarly, Republicans think 42% of Democrats support partisan murder, which is 25 times larger than reality. Americans have a fundamentally incorrect understanding of support for partisan violence.”

ISPP’s Scholars Under Threat Committee call for proposals:

Republicans perceive more discrimination against people who are: White, evangelical, men & religious.

Democrats are much more likely to perceive discrimination against people who are: gay or lesbian, Black, immigrants in US legally, Hispanic, & women.
Republicans and Democrats continue to have very different views of how much discrimination many groups face in the U.S. While there have been some shifts since last year, the partisan patterns are consistent. Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say most of the groups asked about face at least some discrimination. But there are exceptions among certain groups. Groups that Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say experience a lot of or some discrimination: White people (55% of Republicans vs. 21% of Democrats) Evangelical Christians (57% vs. 31%) Men (42% vs. 27%) People who are religious (63% vs. 51%) Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say that 15 of 20 groups included in the survey face a lot of or some discrimination. These are the widest differences: People who are gay or lesbian (90% of Democrats vs. 50% of Republicans) Black people (94% vs. 54%) Immigrants who are in the U.S. legally (84% vs. 45%) Hispanic people (90% vs. 54%) Women (80% vs. 47%)

“What has happened is not that capital income trickled down, but that labour income ‘trickled up’” – @brankomilan.bsky.social on how income from capital remains a privilege of the few in our latest blog post #LSEInequalitiesBlog

Why is capital so concentrated and why do so few have it? Under the "new" capitalism, why do 85% of the world’s population remain capital-income destitute?

Not only their anti-immigrant rhetoric but obvious incompetence of politicians in power emboldens right-wing populist beliefs (e.g., ”Politicians talk too much and do too little," "An ordinary citizen would represent my interests better than a professional politician").

New article on park inequities nationwide. This is the first U.S. analysis of disparities in park access using individual-level data. We find that White and Native American residents have more park space available, while Asian, Black, and Latino/a/x residents generally have less access to park space

Newly accepted in PSPB! We examined whether Asian and Black Americans perceived one another through a zero-sum lens. Inspired by the SCOTUS affirmative action decisions, I wanted to know if Asians thought they were losing to Black people and how this mindset affects coalition

3 years ago today, 40°C was reached in the UK for the first time.

But is that as hot as the UK can get in the current climate? Model evidence suggests temperatures could in fact exceed 45°C if conditions are perfect 🫣

What truly bugs me is that RESEARCH is what so many academics seemingly care about, often neglecting students & teaching.

Yet they're not willing to DO the research & writing themselves?

What is it that they care about? Prestige? Notches on CV?

📈 LLMs are quietly changing scientific writing.

New research finds that 13.5% of biomedical abstracts in 2024 were likely processed with LLMs -- marked by spikes in the use of words like delves, crucial, & significant.

How should #SciencePublishing respond to this?
