UA Faculty Senate votes against proposed compact

In its Oct. 6 faculty senate meeting, faculty voted in favor of a resolution calling upon UA President Suresh Garimella and the Arizona Board of Regents to reject the proposed contract and any similar proposals "compromising the mission, values and independence of the University."

The vote passed 40-8, with one abstention. Faculty members raised several questions about how the university can find a path forward, whether leaders choose to sign the compact or not.

Since the Ezra & Ta-Nehisi discussion is still happening: the main point I think most are missing is that Klein is saying the role of the journalist-intellectual is to do strategic politics, whereas Coates says the role of the journalist-intellectual is to tell the truth

Also, the study is correlational, of course, but our hypotheses for the study were driven by experimental work showing that touch enhances communication of emotion, and soothes in stressful situations. So, yes, correlational, but also, research is reading about and building on others' work!

“I’ve heard about it everywhere I’ve been, every organization,” said Joe Boylan, a longtime NBA assistant coach. “There’s always somebody who brings it up and references it.”

Pretty cool to see teams trying to enhance their belonging and trust with some of the science of touch!
