An arsonist hit a Mississippi synagogue Saturday. Seven Torahs were damaged or destroyed in the fire.

One Torah, from the Holocaust, was in a glass case and wasn't touched.

The same synagogue was bombed by the KKK in 1967.

The demonization of Somalis is no different than the demonization of Haitians before the election. It's a political attack and has to be actively fought—not through half-measures or expressions of tepid concern but by demanding decency from society and respect for all of humanity.

To give you a sense of how big a departure this year, the government doesn't do this for wanted criminals.
SCOOP: The Trump administration is providing the names of all travelers passing through U.S. airports to immigration officials in search of people with deportation orders, a substantial expansion of government efforts to draw on data to hunt down immigrants.

Veteran detained by ICE: I identified myself as a US citizen and a veteran, but that didn't matter. Agents smashed my window, sprayed tear gas into my car, dragged me out. Even after I complied, I was held for 3 days without charges. No phone call, no lawyer, no medical care

On top of this government’s weakening of public health, elevation of incompetents to oversee our national security, and attacks on law abiding immigrants… now we get cravenly racist moves like this.

Lots of reasons for folks to be worried about the new limits on loans for grad programs. Lots of misinformation too.
This piece provides a lot of useful clarification.
The “professional” loan limit discourse this past week has been wild.

I wrote up some thoughts on what recent policies and neg-reg actions actually mean and what impacts on graduate studies we should be focusing on:

Good to have this explanation out there but we all could do w/o the huffy tone. Dunno why the department couldn’t have just put out a release without all this attitude. After all most of America doesn’t make a habit of following negotiated rulemaking
I swore an oath to the Constitution in 1986. I've upheld it through 25 years of service and every day since I retired.

If Trump's trying to intimidate me, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to our country to be silenced by bullies who care more about power than the Constitution.

So not necessarily something Trump officials did ? (Assuming neg-reg team wasn’t stacked?)

Was this list developed by negotiators during rule making or by the department?

Important project
